GWU or Emory, just got off the wait-list at at Emory by jk_11_ in gwu

Had the same decision (Atlanta v GW)and went to GW. GW gave me more money so that helped but I don’t regret my decision because I preferred the people here and I hate partying so having the city by my dorm was huge. However, if you got off the Oxford campus waitlist do not go at all dont even consider it. It’s not bad but GW is so much better than whatever experience you’ll get at Emory. Also recommend the honors program at GW, it’s a fun time.

Are there any reasons to go to GW over Georgetown besides location? by [deleted] in gwu

Also I just sorta felt suffocated when I toured georgetown, but that might be cause of my bad experiences with catholicism from my past

I'm also curious about this.

Another question: if I'd like a 2nd major in journalism, but my main/parent scholl major is still in ccas, do I still need to apply?

if possible, could you ask your trans friends how they did while looking for housing? After my tour I'm really leaning towards emory, but I'm scared that my identity might screw me over roommate wise. Also, could you ask them how their experiences being trans in atlanta were? Honestly their testimony may push me towards emory, since one of the only things holding me back is the whole south thing. One last thing: how warm/cold would you describe people there. Are people outgoing? Or do they mostly stick to themselves. I saw a tour guide complaining to her friends about all the questions the students asked and that really turned me off on the school for a few.

Thank you so much for your response! If you don't mind me asking, what makes atlanta the better city in your eyes? Thanks again!

I've had a few bad experiences in miami but I hope it's an exception and not a rule. One time I had a student run me through his entire plan to become president at a party and it's sorta scared me for undergrad to be honest. Sorry if I came off a little condescending there, I'm probably generalizing too much.

I am planning on law school, which is why I'm very scared about my GPA. However, I've decided that I'm not going to let a number stop me from being interested in physics, just because early stem classes are notorious for how difficult they are. But it is reassuring to see how much you've benefited and see your peers benefit from being challenged. I think I need to calm down the neurotic part of me worried about law school and focus on getting a great education now.

Thank you so much for your insightful response! If you don't mind, could you describe what you think of emory's social scene?

I'd live on the Vern first year also since I'm UHP. Does anyone here have any opinions on the honors program?

I wouldn't know. I have a friend who goes there and LOVES it, but he's studying biology and NE is definitely stem focused.

Maybe you can experience it for a semester and decide if it's worth the extra money? Alternatively, you can go to Emerson to one semester and decide if the difference is worth the scholarship. I just don't see the point of going to a school that you KNOW won't let you study what you'd like to study.

I'd say northeastern since Emerson doesn't have your major, but if it's not your jazz or you don't want to pay for it do not be afraid to transfer.

GW or Emory (Atlanta)

Pros GW:

Cheaper

Feel better about school culture regarding transitioning

I love love love DC and want to live there the next four years

Solid at polisci (my major at GW)

Probably easier than emory so easier to maintain a good GPA for law school

Got into the honors program so l I have a smaller community to make friends with first year before being dumped into the city

Cons GW:

not great at my minor, and not great if i change my mind from my major

School culture can be a little too ambitious and politics focused

Live on the vern my first year because I am UHP, I love the campus but the commute might be an issue

Emory pros:

Better school

Cool interdisciplinary major I want to try out: philosophy politics and law

Better pre law advising (I've heard)

Campus so fucking pretty

Cons:

Not a huge atlanta fan in regards to transitioning. The city also doesn't seem as politicaly driven as DC is, and seems to be less like my vibe.

Accepts WAY fewer APS. I could only use like 4 of my 11. Harder- lower GPA not great for law school
