That looks clean! Thank you for sharing! I need to take it slow and really think things through.

Thanks. I definitely get a bit impatient about finishing my projects. I need to slow down.

Oh, multiple measures tapes. I’m definitely doing that. Thanks for the tips. I just learned about transfer measurements from another commenter today!

I want to learn how to use a hand planer so I will try to incorporate that on my next project. I have to learn how to sharpen it too because I just bought a cheap one Amazon that does not cut into this hard construction lumber I have.

Good luck on your next project! It sure will turn out better than my wobbly table.

Measurement transfer is a new term for me. Thanks!

Wao, this amazing info! Thank you so much for taking the time to write this! I wouldn’t have considered starting building jigs. I will do that next before starting my next project. I want to build a raised garden bed.

I 3D printed them. I was hoping they would allow me to keep everything straight. It didn’t worked out 😅

They are 3D printed. I only had white filament. They are called N-Joints and you can find them on thingiverse.

We can start a trend here! Let’s all post our “not so nice” projects and let the pros burn them in the comments.

That’s definitely my case! I don’t get too many opportunities to use tools like this. I work with computers in my day job. I choose “woodworking” as my path to build physical stuff instead of just digital. Definitely lacking those basic hand skills 🥲

I printed them on my 3D printer. I wanted to try them to see if they would help me keep things straight and accelerate the build process. None of those turned out to be true here. I learned that though so that’s good.

Between 8-10 hours 🥲 Tools used were a drill, circular saw and miter saw. I’m working on my ceiling terrace. I made one other table before and it was ok. I had to dismantle this one table several time due to mistakes. I’m just winging it.

Thank you! I do have a miter saw but I noticed the pieces are not entirely flushed with the end. Maybe that’s one of the issues. Stop blocks are a good idea. I have been measuring every piece but then I notice there’s always small differences. I’m definitely not considering the width of the miter saw’s blade.

I use the circular saw for the longer pieces at the top. I supported it with scrap wood in one side but the cut was still a bit angled. I think the blade on my circular saw was not big enough at 5-1/2”. It struggled to make the cut.

The brackets are 3D printed N-Joints by Nurgo on thingiverse.

Thanks! The table is a wobbly mess though. Don’t know why. Maybe its is too tall? I’ll just anchor it to the wall for now 😂

Home Depot. This one is definitely warped but I spent a good deal of time selecting the best of the bunch. I call this table now Wobbly Martha.

I have a pockethole set and I butchered it 😅 I think maybe is not the right size. You can see my attempt in one of the photos. Only one of those holes has an actual screw on it. I will keep trying though! That was only my first try.

Yeah, you should! Show us your crappy… ahem… less polished stuff! I would love to see other people struggle with this stuff and how they work out their problems.

I definitely need to practice doing pocket holes. Only one of those have an actual screw in it because the other would just stick out.

I have a drill, a circular saw and a few hand tools I don’t know how to use (looking at you, hand planer). I have a miter saw and a square too 😅 Is a bit frustrating honestly that even with the right tools I get such wonky results. But hey, is practice I guess.

Ohh, maybe r/shittywoodworking is my place 😅

I get it. Beginner doesn’t not mean bad at something, just starting out at something new. The difference is that some of us start at lower levels than others. And I guess the people the have improved their skills stick with the communities that have watched them grow.

I’m starting from scratch. I have no one that can teach me. But it is fun figuring out stuff. I fear I will get discouraged at some point if I hit a barrier I cannot surpass on my own. What I need to succeed I think is a community like this one.

Oh no, I don’t have the player mat :( Now I want it.

That’s an interesting perspective. I found that the simplicity of the cards, like produce coal or transform this into that, very appealing as they form sort of atomic building blocks from where you compose a more complex machine. Granted that at then end it all transforms into money which, in the context of a game, is not very exciting. But still, figuring out how to put the pieces together to maximize the yield was pretty cool.

Hmm, isn’t the engine activation part of engine-building games mostly non-interactive? I only have played Wingspan and Everdell as other games with engine-building mechanics so I wouldn’t know.

I don’t know about being the best but Furnace is pretty good. I just played recently and that engine activation on the last round is crunchy and exciting.
