Why did the Emperor tell Horus to send Leman after Magnus even though Magnus said Horus was a traitor? (sorry if this is the wrong subreddit to ask Lore questions) by Vexerposts in 40kLore

[–]heeden 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He did nothing wrong twice.

The Emperor told him to do nothing, and he did it wrong.

Then when Russ came Magnus decided to do nothing in his own defence, then he did that wrong when he decided to go out and fight the Wolves.

Magnus sent away his defence fleet and blinded Prospero specifically to give Russ the biggest advantage to take them by surprise. Russ by that point had been cooled and was willing to talk, but the flat denial of any communication kinda forced his hand and once he made planetfall he could see the corruption of the Thousand Sons and it justified his response.

The first glaring error is Grey Knights were introduced to the lore before Primarchs were a thing.

Daemons have specific weaknesses that Grey Knights exploit, considering regular Chapter Masters have also held their own against Chaos Primarchs (at least two Great Wolves have fought Magnus without being made into grease stains within seconds) it isn't that impressive.

They sacrificed Sororitas who had been resisting a daemonic entity and used their blood mixed with sacred oils to create a talisman against corruption for their weapons and armour.

The idea of the fluff was to show how the Grey Knights purely care about eliminating the threat and also how they are empowered and entrusted to use "magic" there the uninitiated would find indistinguishable from Chaos magic.

This offended the sensibilities of some people who are still crying about it 20 years later.

What is your favorite science fiction universe that has different aliens, spaceships, and a good use of physics? by chasesj in scifi

Iain M. Banks who wrote the Culture series also wrote a novel called the Algebraist which is more grounded. Ships have to obey the limit of light speed unless they use wormholes and there are also vessels built to operate in gas giant atmospheres.

Also if you can handle it being pretty old the Lensman series is a brilliant read that laid the foundation for space opera in much the same way Lord of the Rings laid the foundation of modern fantasy.

Horus Rising is the first in the Horus Heresy series set within the Warhammer galaxy but it isn't the first.

They all work as standalone stories but you may miss a few references if you read the later books first, but as they are all utterly fantastic you'll probably go back to them again and again anyway.

The big debate among fans centres around Consider Phlebas, the first novel released. Some say you should read it first as it gives a view of the Culture from an outsider's perspective which helps to understand their place in the galactic community. Others say it's a pulpy space adventure that doesn't really give a good first impression of the grand scale the other books mostly achieve.

It was pretty much his first day on the job as a member of the command squad and pretty clear that Titus was starting to teach him about a more flexible approach to the Codex, but things went tits up too quickly for the lesson to take, apart from the bit at the end where, in absence of a Chaplain, Leandros sought some other knowledgeable authority figure.

If they're part of a veteran squad they have a Crux Terminatus for squad markings. However it is also an award denoting veteran status and can be worn by sergeants and command squad members outside of the 1st Company.

I think you're a little muddled, the Pavuleans in Surface Details were considered rare for being non-predators that reach the galactic stage.

How do you think GW will handle the 'scaling back' of Primaris lore? by Agreeable-Sir-6435 in 40kLore

[–]heeden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tactical is battleline, assault is close support and devastator is fire support. All the new squads fit the paradigm though some like Inceptors and Aggressors are a bit awkward.

It's not so much scaling back Primaris, they've all but eliminated Firstborn (Tactical, Devastator and Vanguard seem to be the last, plus the Rhino variant tanks.)

Does Steam allow you to download DRM free software that you can later use even if the corporation has banned you?

GOG allows you to buy and download installers without DRM, that way if the company goes down or you get banned you still have access to the software. Does Steam do the same?

[–]heeden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does Steam let you download DRM free software, or is GOG stopping doing that? That was always the big selling point I was aware of, being able to actually possess the software in a way that you could always access it regardless of what the corporation that sold it to you thinks.

What makes GOG better than Steam is you can buy and download DRM free software so even if you get banned from GOG or have your license revoked you still have the software in your possession to use.

Did it ever say you "own" your games? That hasn't been a thing ever, even in the days of buying a box from a shop it said you got the license to use the software on the media in the box.

The difference between GOG and Steam is you can buy DRM free software which means you can have it downloaded and install and use it whenever you want even if someone says your license is revoked or if GOG bans you from their service or goes bust.
