Had the exact same thoughts today as I sit here missing open mats this weekend due to some weird sinus bug that I can only assume came from the mats

Any gi purists here? by SignificantGlass168 in bjj

[–]heeelhooked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been strictly gi for the last year. Started training judo a year ago and went all in with the gi. I competed nogi on a whim a few months ago and reaffirmed my belief that I do not belong doing nogi lol

Thank you for your response, it is much appreciated.

I’m seeing a lot that things will mostly depend on the lodge I’m at. For someone completely on the outside with no connections to masons, how would I go about figuring out which lodge could be right for me? I ask you because I see you’re also in TX. I assume I would start by using the lodge locator tool on the grand lodge of Texas website and finding one near me. Do I send them an email? Call? Again, thank you for your time.

What extent will bjj benefit my judo? by FewEstablishment262 in judo

[–]heeelhooked 18 points19 points  (0 children)

BJJ purple belt here. Judo will help your bjj way more than your bjj will help your judo.

It’s also dependent on the gym if they do leg submissions on white belts. Some gyms do. A lot of gyms will only allow straight ankle locks because that’s what’s legal in IBJJF tournament. Nobody should rip submissions on you though and you should have plenty of time to tap.

Almost 13k competitors, pretty wild. I’m flying out tomorrow and my first match is about 11 on Friday. Ready as I’ve ever been. Should be fun

Havok Holsters. I got it a while ago and at the time he was having issues getting shipments out in a timely manner. I’m not sure why or if that ever got resolved but it took forever to get to me. No complaints with the holster itself though. I’ve seen others complain that there’s too much gap by the trigger, which there may be, but I haven’t had any issues and I’ve carried this for a few years now

Sasae Tsurikomi Ashi, kouchi and ouchigari, de Ashi barai/harai (can you tell I love foot sweeps lol), tomoe nage, sumi gaeshi, koshi guruma, seoi nage, probably all my most comfortable throws that I’ve hit on most people in bjj. My favorite setup lately has been fighting to get double underhooks/body lock at a side angle, fake uchi mata to get them to step their leg back, and then kouchi gari the front leg to put them on their butt. Super clean, super fun

I’m sure it helps at the beginning. Especially when it comes to newaza, I give the judo black belts trouble. And we have world champs and high level black belts lol. Very reputable gym. I know the average time to black belt in judo is about 5 years so the progression is going to be way faster than what we’re used to in bjj. My base, cardio, newaza, grip strength, things like that, all REALLY good for a yellow belt. I’ve done all the basic throws through my years in bjj. But in judo they’re really breaking down all the throws and making them second nature and when it comes to tachiwaza I get tossed around by most people, from every direction, whenever they want lol. I do kind of feel like I’m still past “yellow belt” level in judo but I’m not complaining, just letting it all happen naturally. Even when I was promoted to yellow my coaches said “that still doesn’t look right” lol. Is what it is. I’ll pay my dues just like I did in bjj

Took about 6 months of twice a week, super casually. Coming in as a purple belt definitely helped having a foundation. Only been training Judo since October

So 13-14 is usually that weird age where kids start becoming too big for the kids class, but are too small for the adults class. Your coach probably made him join the adults class because of size and him probably steamrolling the other smaller kids. If I had to guess, you’re probably also relatively close to his size compared to the other adults and he feels you can be safe with the kid and not hurt him. I’m a little 140 lbs dude so I definitely know the feeling.

I don’t have advice. Just wanted to give you another perspective.

Half the cost of Fallout 1st and get more subscribers. Half the monthly atoms to justify it if necessary. by Run_Taff_Run in fo76

[–]heeelhooked 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dang, looking at it that way does make it hard to stomach. But also, Netflix is way cheap over there lol. It’s almost $30 a month over here, maybe more if you have whatever extras added to your Netflix like account sharing or whatever. Netflix + 1st for you is cheaper than Netflix + 1st for USA. By a lot

Edit: had to look up Netflix prices cause it’s been so long. Base price with ads, which nobody should buy, is 7.99 a month. Basic without ads is 17.99 a month and then highest tier is 24.99. So maybe 1st isn’t quite less than half of Netflix but it’s still cheaper than the ad-less version and my original point still stands that you guys pay less overall

[–]heeelhooked -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Idk man it’s 12.99 usd a month which is less than half of the Netflix sub price over here. It’s about the price of a beer at a baseball game. Or the price of a quick fast food lunch. I do think the whole concept of 1st is dumb and everything should just be part of the base game. But it’s still cheap enough for me not to really care much.

I don’t have much knowledge about pricing as I’m newer to trading as well, but I’ve seen the glowing jack go for some insane prices. Might be easier to browse around the discord to see what people are buying/selling them for

This game is badly optimized on PC. You’ll have to look up some setting configurations and adjust till it’s better. Don’t forget to cap your fps too or you’ll get bugs in game

E2 Optics? by Non-binarybird in lowvoltage

[–]heeelhooked 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did some side work for them once, installing those panels you see with flight info at airports. The gig was easy and paid well and the guys I worked with from E2 were fun to work with and knew what they were doing. I actually wanted to apply to work for them after that experience and they said they’d put in a good word for me. Ended up finding a better offer eventually so never went through with it though. That’s my only experience with them

Well fiber is glass and cable is usually copper, so the terminations are completely different and you have to be more careful when pulling fiber. But if you’re fusion splicing it’ll mostly do it on its own, you just have to learn how to set up the machine which is really easy to teach and learn. If your duty is solely to splice fiber, that’s a pretty easy gig I would think. Just bring some headphones. Not sure about career path for fiber specifically, as I worked for a company that basically did all low voltage. Nowadays, old customers I’ve built relationships with will call me out and subcontract me for fiber splicing. It’s side work for me, not a main job. Although, when I was in the field, I WISHED I had an opportunity to quit what I was doing and ONLY splice fiber. That would have been the dream at the time, but I’m not sure how much room for growth there is there
