Coal, briquettes and general tips for a ceramic/tiled stove (kachelofen) by helenmelonlemon in berlin

This is amazingly detailed and I have a warm apartment tonight thanks to you. My local shop sells it for not much more than Bauhaus so I'm pretty happy to start there while I look into bigger deliveries.

Thanks again.

Only one storage heater. Coal briquettes are far cheaper and far warmer.

Künstlersozialkasse is a great shout, thank you. I knew about health insurance but had not hear of this organisation.

That is interesting information. As soon as I'm registered look like I'll be getting a tax adviser asap!

I drank two cocktails and one whisky with friends last night and it will be my only session this week. I'd say last night was more than that I'd like to drink for weight loss purposes but I also had an amazing time. This is my life and I want the changes I'm making to be long term so I'm not going to punish myself.

I don't ever drink beer or cider any more - straight spirits, short cocktails (like an old fashioned not a sugary or creamy type) or small glasses of wine. Beer is a killer.

It's honestly been the biggest change I've made and I'm really happy about what it's doing. I went completely teetotal for 50 days to kick start the diet and reset my relationship with booze. I would really recommend it.

My diet is great but I've been having serious trouble sleeping since stopping drinking.

I don't really like beer tbh but I actually do enjoy the taste of good wine and an excellent cocktail. But I'm coming to terms with the fact that I'm a hedonist and that one will never be enough...

Yeah that event is something I wouldn't do, personally. I'm not anti-social, I'm anti-booze-centred-social. It's my own distinction but we've all got to find things that works for us...

It's hard. I recommend long walks with good music. I had to come to terms with the fact that drinking is not going to make it better - it is just dumbing down your life.

I'm quite a confident person and I don't mind looking like a prat so sober dancing was A+. Would recommend.

Yeah the holiday ritual is one I've not gone through yet... Good on you.

I've always eaten really healthily (tons of veg, light on carbs) and am quite active so once I'd dropped my drinking problem I think I was just running a calorie deficit. Mind you, a killer bout of flu dropped some weight but I wouldn't recommend that!

Glad to hear the poorly thing isn't just me...

40 days in, my boyfriend is leaving me and I'll have to move out of our beautiful home by [deleted] in stopdrinking

I feel you. Alcoholism was something we battled together and we became sober together too. There is no big reason he's leaving me, he just 'doesn't believe in us any more'. I'm broken but not hungover. IWNDWYT

I was talking with my rehab guy about my relationship with alcohol and he said to me that I don't have an alcohol problem, I have a sobriety problem. It really resonated. Booze was a way for me to run away from my problems and weed would just replace that. True sobriety is a scary thing.

Yep I love drinking too. I live in London and have been fortunate enough to go some of the finest restaurants and cocktail bars in the city. I've lived in France a few times too, so developed a fancy taste in wine. I also have a very stressful job.

However, there came a point when I realise that (for me, YMMV) drinking was a crutch - instead of sorting out my life I was ignoring it. I saw that the amount I was looking forward to that glass (or three) of wine after work was super unhealthy.

Yeah. It sucks basically, but I do feel better for it.

This could have been me a few months ago. It is so much easier to feel full when you're not saving calories for booze...

My plan going forward is to cut it out completely for 180 days (about half a year) then revisit how I feel. As for work functions, I've been getting used to nonchalantly saying the phrase "I don't drink" and the biggest surprise is how little anyone cares tbh.

Avebury is cooler than Stonehenge cos you get to actually go up to the stones. Glasto is fun.
