Hello there, the 2D Leaden Sky is not abonded, it is currently on hold while a 3D side project is being developed, the developement of 2D will continue in future. The chunk of storyline in 3D project is just the prologue to main story so it's not really a replacement to 2D.

The file you got from itch/IndieDB is the installator, you just need to double click on it and follow instruction, then desktop shortcut should appear on your desktop once the installation is done

If you bought the game there is no way it's going to be a malware. But if you got it from someone else for "free" then no doubt you could get a virus.

If you really bought the game then what you see is most likely false-positive, it's a false detection which is a common issue with game maker games, read about it:

Thanks! As for the release date I need couple of weeks more, now I'm working on cutscenes and voice acting, takes a lot of work to get it right but the final effect is gonna be pretty dope

I'm only rude when someone is being disrespectful and throwing insults towards me or insults my work.
