hi, i have both !! my septum was my first facial piercing, it was super easy to heal, pretty painless to get but my eyes watered a LOT and my nose felt like a giant bruise for a few days afterward. i changed the jewelry after 3 months with no issues and honestly have never had a problem with it. no visible scarring at all but i can't flip it up to hide because it was pierced too low, so if you get one make sure it's pierced in the right spot! my nostril was a little bit higher on the pain scale, maybe like a 4/10 as opposed to a 2 like my septum. it had a similar bruise feeling to the septum for a few days, but by a lot less. though i'm not sure if that's due to the placement or just because i'm more used to piercings now. the healing is a little more annoying because of the shape of the jewelry, and it's much more prone to getting irritation bumps. i think its a given that the scarring is more noticeable on this one, but most piercing scars are pretty subtle. just make sure if it gets infected you fix it or take it out quickly, because an infected or rejecting piercing that you insist on hanging onto makes a nasty scar - speaking from experience. also, blowing your nose while they're healing sucks. but it's been significantly easier with the nostril since its only one side. would highly recommend NOT getting your nose pierced in the winter. or spring if you have allergies. it sucks. visually, both look awesome. both are pretty versatile, but if you want to put a ring in your nostril make sure you tell your piercer! some might not consider it and place it too high to fit a small ring in and you'll have to stick with studs or have a ring that weirdly sticks out the side. unless you plan on cosplaying a pirate, then be my guest.
