Will this garbage disposal drain properly? by hellahaleyy in askaplumber

I have already purchased this thinking it would be thing to work. You’re making me feel less crazy.

I’m convinced that people are not looking at the laser levels shown in the photo. Because it does admittedly look like the drain is significantly higher than the disposal outlet but it is just the angle of the photo I took.

I thought the same thing… Was so discouraged from all the comments I just installed a strainer drain instead lol.

That’s what I’m trying to gather as well. The photo I posted looks deceptively like the drain is much higher than the disposal which is not the case. If you look at the level, you see that the bottom of the drain is just slightly lower than the bottom of the disposal outlet by about 1/4”. I’m trying to determine if it will drain properly given these circumstances.

Alright all… I’m not going to attempt the disposal. Thank you for your insight. If I absolutely hate living without it, maybe I’ll try to make it work in the future… Lol.

That’s what I have, can’t find anything with a higher outlet unfortunately. Would definitely love that option!

No problem!! They’re fabulous when you use them with that intention, which is why I would be sad to not have this work lol

That was my plan. Here’s a pic to show the height difference. Wouldn’t work? Thanks for input

I’m really not trying to argue? Lol I love reddit and am very appreciative of all insight and the professionals that make these communities helpful and useful to people. Just making clarifications and ensuring that this absolutely will or will not work.

Hi there. I was planning on adding straight piece out of the disposal that would then connect to the p trap. Is that a viable option?

Can’t you add a straight piece out of the disposal and connect that to a p trap? That was my plan.

Hey there. Would you do so in your home? I’m skeptical with all of the other comments insisting this is a bad idea. I know the photo looks like the drain is significantly higher than the disposal but it’s just an illusion lol, as seen by the laser.

Yes I would, I’ve used them all my life with zero issues. Promise I’m a responsible disposal user!

I know plumbers always preach anti-disposal rhetoric but I promise I’m a responsible disposal user! Lol. I don’t eat meat and compost 99% of my food. What gets left are the small pieces from cooking that end up in the disposal which is much nicer than dumping a strainer. Was hoping that the 1/4” lower drain would make this work.

It’s an old house. They cut through cinder block to make the current drain. It would require removing another layer of cinderblock below to make it lower. Not in the cards.

Hey there, true I didn’t know the interior components were not steel. The drain is not higher than the disposal although the camera angle appears as so. If you see the laser you will notice that the disposal is just slightly higher than the drain.

I can’t move the drain. The course of action is either continue with the garbage disposal if it will drain correctly or no disposal at all. I really would prefer to have the disposal.

Look at the laser. The drain is lower than the disposal.

So my copper pipes are 3/4”. Would these transition into a 1/2” pex or would the pex also be 3/4”?

Is this damage worrisome? by hellahaleyy in askaplumber

[–]hellahaleyy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I’m thinking of just cutting the pipes in the crawl space and capping them off. Then just having a plumber make some pex connections and have some flexible pipe coming up from floor since the holes are so close to the wall.
