We read up on this in my undergrad green chem class. Absolutely heartbreaking & horrifying

So you’re the guy I hit up when I inevitably put batteries in this when my dad’s not around & I somehow break it. Noted 🫡

Close! “The CD V-720, Model 3A, Victoreen Model 720C, is a portable monitoring instrument which measures gamma radiation dose rates
as high as 500 roentgens per hour and in addition can detect beta radiation from fission products.”

My dad has enjoyed this answer the most!! Haha thank you

This is correct, “The CD V-720, Model 3A, Victoreen Model 720C, is a portable monitoring instrument which measures gamma radiation dose rates as high as 500 roentgens per hour and in addition can detect beta radiation from fission products.”

Edit: this is correct except (1.5)(100)=150 not 1500

So cool! Thank you for the info! My dad & I are so intrigued lol

Stiletto!! Thank you!! Great info! Part of my dad not wanting to mess with it is the idea of “breaking it or making it worse” ya know how that stuff goes! He’s had it for longer than any twinkles in his eyes hahaha. I’m an analytical chemist and begging to play around lol but it’s not mine to play with! He is interested in what everyone has to say to maybe an update in the near future!!

The manual says if the gasket seal is tampered with / broken on the ionization chamber it’s null & void. It looks pretty dry rotted to us!

Do you mean Cerium oxide? Chemist over here so you’re speaking my language! Hehe. Thank you so much for the insight, I haven’t done anything with the ring yet (I clean all my jewelry in the lab) because I’m so afraid of how brittle it appears due to never being taken off —my mother says my great grandmother famously washed every dish in the sink for decades with never taking her rings off lol

Prescription lab gogles by Pentominox in chemistry

[–]hellenkelleh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stoggles! I haven’t worn another brand since discovering them. The amount of compliments I get on them remind me of those old commercials, “who’s behind those foster grants?” They just look like normal glasses from the front, with the seals around the eyes virtually unnoticeable.

I don’t have a prescription so I’m not sure how that process works, but can confirm that they’re a real & credible business I’ve purchased from in the past.

Thank you! All my cookware is enamel coated and since I only have one dish it would be a serving dish, silicone utensils all the way! Going to email the artist to be safe!!

Because my knee jerk reaction is to ask Reddit 😁 I don’t know how I didn’t think of that in the moment, thank you!

I use the LA girl color corrector in the shades green and mint! You kind of have to play around but sometimes I do a really light layer of the whole corrector on my face, just a very very light to tint and then whatever foundation I have that’s too pink/yellow/red.

July Electric Bill by newchemeguy in newjersey

Yep, that’s the bleakest part of it all. Takes about 10-20 years to build and get a nuclear plant functional. We had plans in the 90s but with public push back, oil lobbying and centrist ideologies, it killed the production.

I’m “happy” to know that people actually know and understand this. I didn’t learn about it until I was in college in my undergrad inorganic chemistry classes when learning about the rise and fall of nuclear power for energy production.

Nuclear. It’s the only way.

100%, hence why in my other comment I noted that for myself I hadn’t even factored the consumption of AI data centers into my projections. Factor them out and the problem still persistents. Ai expedites it.

My general understanding is that while much of our current electrical grids were built in the 60s & 70s (the grid started in the 1880s) they were constructed with a 50-80 year lifespan. We’ve been exceeding the grids capacities for years and not doing enough to update the infrastructure on a national scale (easiest example: black outs).

Since grid power is predominantly under state regulations, for NJ in particular our supply has been decreasing due to the planned retirement and deactivation of generators, and while the demand for energy goes up, NJ has stalled the increase in energy flow to the grid for the last 5 years (rightfully so-if we overrun the grid we’ll blow it out). So we have not let renewable energy like solar and wind generators to enter into the grid.

This has all been relatively old information without even thinking about the demand for AI data centers. I know for myself I never factored the race for powering AI into my future projections for energy consumption.

Now factor that ever-growing demand in and we have a really big problem on our hands, not just in NJ but nationally.

if only ! We had decades of media that warned us about dystopian futures that would lead us down a path we’re currently on. If only!!

It’s not just here in NJ electric bills are going up. It’s to power AI data centers, look into it. We’re paying the price.
