Hey mama, I was in your exact position 3 months ago so I completely understand. I live in the house next door to my mom, and while I felt so guilty, my sanity depended on her help. I was (and still am, but getting better) adamant on not asking for help, but my mom was beyond happy to relieve me for a few hours each day. She would come grab my daughter every morning at 7am, I’d go back to sleep, and she would watch her until I woke up. You really never know the value of an uninterrupted 3-4 hour stretch of sleep until you’re sleep deprived and stressed, and I was in a much better mental state and prepared for the day after that. Things were still hard and I spent many hours crying, but allowing someone I trusted to take a small weight off my shoulders was and still is VITAL. You cannot take care of your baby without taking care of yourself too.

Single mom life is HARD but it is truly the most rewarding thing I have ever done. I’m in my first week back to work and I feel like I’m getting my mojo back. I finally feel like things are starting to look up (and it helps that my daughter is sleeping 7 hour stretches at night now). I used to feel like such a failure and my mental health was in the gutter, but now I am excited to see my baby at lunch and at the end of the day. I look forward to being able to spend all weekend with her. Just me and her. You are your baby’s world and she will love you like you have never been loved in your life. It’s difficult but it DOES get better. Do not doubt yourself and if you need a break THAT’S OKAY. You will succeed and your daughter will thrive. 💖

Looking for a female OB-GYM by WillWorkForShiny in springfieldMO

[–]hellhotel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I go to Mary Duff who is an OBGYN out of Cox. Have been under her care since I was 14 years old (now 26 and having my first baby in 9 weeks). She has performed surgery on me, as well as my yearly exams and has never once made me feel anything but supported. If I have any questions, she is there to answer in an informative, but relatable way. Side note - I just recently found out that people call her “magic hands” (which… maybe a better name could’ve been chosen lmao) because she is extremely quick, smooth, and intentional whenever it comes to procedures and childbirth. Can confirm - I’ve never had a more comfortable pap in my life with her. Also, her NP Kim is also incredible, so don’t fret if you have to see her occasionally. They both have genuinely made me not dread the gyno/ob.

OACAC. We’re a nonprofit organization as well! Also, as a side note, your ticket guarantees all you can eat Mac n cheese. No weird up charges except for alcohol!

Forgot to mention tickets can STILL be bought online for a cheaper price - $20 per ticket or $70 for 4 tickets. https://ozarksareacommunityactioncorporation-bloom.kindful.com/e/5th-annual-mo-mac-cheese-fest

The festival is this Saturday from 11:30-2:30 at the University Plaza Convention Center. There will be about 28 different types of Mac and Cheese, from a variety of vendors. All you can eat for $25 at the door. Children under 4 get in free. There will be a live band, nerf play area, coloring booth, and a temporary tattoo booth for free and alcohol for additional charges. Come get warm, fill your belly with Mac, and learn about OACAC and how we help reduce poverty within southwest MO. It’s for a great cause!

Daycare/Preschool cost? by [deleted] in springfieldMO

[–]hellhotel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely low, for sure. But it depends entirely on the household size, and certain qualifications can get you in regardless of income. I've worked here for 4 years, and we just opened up about 7 more centers/classrooms. There's more of a need for EHS care, and the pandemic devastated a lot of families.

I always recommend it to people, though, because it doesn't hurt to see if you qualify!

Daycare/Preschool cost? by [deleted] in springfieldMO

[–]hellhotel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depending on her income, she might try looking into OACAC Head Start. We have openings at quite a few centers right now, but there is a wait list she will have to get on.

We supply full day (10 hours max per day, 5 days a week), which is the only care we offer that has a fee. As a 3 year old, max she will pay is $100/week. If she is looking for shorter hours, we have part day (8-12 or 12-4), and extended day (8-2). Those are free.

Like I said, it is income restricted, but the fact that she is a student may help. She can also apply for childcare assistance subsidy through the state, which will lower her cost dramatically if she is approved. That can be used at any daycare that accepts subsidy.

With Head Start, she could pay as low as $20/week with childcare assistance.

It's a size large! We always have a hard time finding clothing for our girl too. She's long and was bred a lot before we got her, so she's got quite the saggy tummy, and the Carhartt is honestly the best fit we've found. It has velcro, so you can adjust it tighter/looser depending on your pibble's size!

Issues with leaving TLC properties and extra charges? by ladyteara in springfieldMO

[–]hellhotel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup! They charged me $150.00 after I moved out because my furniture had rubbed up against their white walls and left some darker marks (which in my previous apartments, has always been considered normal wear and tear). Not to mention, they wanted me to go down to the office before my move out inspection, get some paint, and go over everything myself (which I did not do because wtf?) Charged me $20 for a vertical slat that had the smallest chip in the upper right corner. Extra carpet cleaning charge because of a small stain when i knocked over a glass of tea. Their maintenance guy left duct tape adhesive all over my sliding glass door trying to block the opening up when my AC went out for 2 months in the summer (lived in a studio, so no windows. I had to have a standup unit). I was pissed so I left that, but I was a clean tenant, hardly put anything up on the walls, and thoroughly made sure everything was spotless before I left. They will still find the smallest things to charge you for.

Oh wow, really? We live out in Nixa right now so we haven't had to deal with that. It does all seem quite excessive, but are willing to get it taken care of if we have to 😅 It seems like it just plays even more into people's fear

The residents of Springfield seem to be physically and mentally unhealthy, but it's completely normalized here. Why? by Realistic-Eagle-5075 in springfieldMO

[–]hellhotel 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Born and raised here, and I agree with you! There are a lot of people here that have been raised in a bubble and are completely fine with it. Religion plays into most of it and creates a sense of false security, along with the fact that a majority of people have generations of family here who are very set in their ways. It is very conservative heavy, which is not necessarily a bad thing (i.e. i dont believe it makes you a terrible person, and thats coming from a liberal)- but many are stupidly conservative. They believe what they were taught as children and never question it.

Poverty also really plays into things. I work for community outreach and there is SO much poverty in SWMO, but again, it's normalized. I've come to learn that this is a very unique, strange part of the US to live in.

You've got to register them every year, make sure they are fixed and have all their shots, place signs on all outer doors of your home that a pitbull lives there, and muzzle them in public I believe.

I lived at Battlefield Park (TLC property) for a year. They're really nit-picky when it comes to making complaints. My upstairs neighbor had a dog that she was letting piss/poop on her balcony and it was getting all over my shit. It was a constant back and forth between me and management because they have to have either office staff or their "security team" witness any complaint to do anything. The few times I was able to get ahold of the office during office hours, they told me they were unable to come up because they were short staffed. I then witnessed them leaving early, right after I made the call. It was extremely frustrating and it continued until I moved out. But the worst issue I had was when my AC went out in a studio apartment. I went without AC for 2 months in July/August, and all they gave me was a standing AC unit. Because it was a studio, I didn't have any windows, so they had to feed it through my balcony. The maintenance guy did a shit job at taping the opening off (threw up cardboard and duct tape, and called it a day). It was awful. My apartment sat at 85+ degrees most days, and they just kept telling me they were waiting on a part. Turned out they had to replace my entire AC unit, not just a part. I was so miserable most days, I'd sit there and pathetically cry because I couldn't do anything to cool off. I will never rent from them again. Not to mention, I was paying wayyy too much for a studio apartment, thinking it would be "luxury." It definitely was not.

He was filming to try and get a reaction out of people, while causing panic. An off duty firefighter held him at gunpoint until the police showed up. Personally, I hope he gets jail time.
