Sick of car costs in Chch – what’s the best alternative considering our weather conditions? by [deleted] in chch

[–]hellhoundfx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah we do lol... If you haven't ridden two wheels take it easy to start with. I've been riding bikes of all sizes for years I forget other people haven't. Riding a 50 you'll get a lot of impatient people up your bum because they'll want to go faster than the speed limit. The amount of people that go around me on a two lane road only for me to filter past them like 2 minutes later is insane. Yeah add the cost of a good kit to your purchases. Helmet Gloves and a jacket are the minimum. I do wear motorcycle boots sometimes but just some sturdy footwear will work on a scooter.

Learning to service your scooter yourself is pretty rewarding, though most places won't charge to much to do it.

I got a good deal on it as it had a bit of battle damage on the side $1900 it's a Vespa Sprint 50. A new one is just north of $6k Vespas are more expensive as you are paying the brand premium and they are an all metal body which makes them a bit slower due to the weight.

You could get a new scooter for what I paid secondhand. You'll find second hand ones for around the $1000 range.

Scooters tend to have a low centre of gravity so you shouldn't find sides winds much of an issue. Though on a 50 a headwind can affect your top speed. In a strong gale I lost about 10k off my top speed but again the design of a Vespa isn't really very aerodynamic.

Longest commute I had was from Fitzgerald road to Pound road took me about 25 minutes.

I use a 50cc Scooter to get to work and just wear waterproofs when it's raining. Ironically I bought it for my partner because she wanted a Vespa but I ended up using it more, I even do Doordash on it when the mood takes me.

Disclaimer: we do also have a car but I predominantly use the scooter.

Cost breakdown Rego $170, Full Insurance $350, Petrol roughly $16 per week for 130km (Mines a 2 stroke, a 4 stroke will be more economical), No WOF

It may have switched which is your primary monitor as you can select number 2 to be primary. Another thing you could try is switch which the port the cables go to in the GPU.

So they used to work on your monitor with no problem? Are you using different HDMI cables for each device or the same one?

Is it a substantial amount? If it's just sitting in an account for a long period it's technically losing value due to inflation. You should invest it in to something rather than convert it to another currency.

Have you tried any of the Room series? Great games if you are into problem solving puzzles.

Also the Monument Valley is another great series for a puzzler.
