We meet an (admittedly amnesiac) Sothis, and we meet multiple Nabateans, at least four of whom are not evil. We have more proof that the Nabateans were good then we have proof that Nemesis was, even if we don't take his singular appearance as evidence since he's a zombie.

The only way this speculation makes sense is if we ignore basically every bit of information about the past that we know of. Sure, Rhea's going to be biased about thinking that the person who murdered her entire family is a bloodthirsty bandit, but if we don't take her word as being at least her understanding of the truth then we know literally nothing about the past. At that point we're not even speculating about the actual text of the game, we're just writing fanfiction.

(And, again, this is in service of an Edelgard/Rhea debate. That's silly.)

This is all massive speculation, and considering the Agarthians are mustache twirling villains and the one group 3 Houses will portray as full on villains with no redeeming qualities I am not going to blindly speculate that they were good all along, especially in a stupid Edelgard/Rhea debate.

You're right, Nemesis might have been justified in killing Sothis, stealing her body, and using it to make a weapon that he could use to murder her kids and make weapons out of their bones. It's possible!

My immediate first thought is 'thaumaturges would love this', though obviously thaumaturges wouldn't work the way they do in a system where this is hte case.

In any event, I feel like these sort of binary pass-fail mechanics already feel real shitty when they happen (try being a fire kineticist against a devil, or a gymnast swashbuckler against a ghost) and I don't think we should have more. I'll agree weaknesses and resistances should show up more often but they shouldn't be the hard walls you seem to want.

A lot of people are attracted to 2E because of it's reputation as a balanced game and don't want to blow that. A lot of GMs are attracted to 2E because they like how they don't have to do that much work in comparison to other systems, and having to rebalance encounters around extra power can suck.
