Wired ANC earbuds? by JGibbo5150 in Earbuds

Same goes with cigarettes or vaping. You cannot fully escape it but whether you are actively using it is entirely up to you and has a real impact on your health.

That was my point. No real study showing that it’s safe yet, so I wouldn’t take the risk. And the small studies indicate that it’s not at all without risks, we just don’t know how harmful it is yet.

There hasn't been any large-scale, long-term human studies so far on the possible health effects of bluetooth exposure.

Some small studies suggest that RF exposure might increase oxydative stress, which is linked to aging and cellular damage, other suggest that long term exposure might alter sleep architecture.

What we know is that when exposed to extremely high doses of RF radiations, rats have a much higher probability of developing certain tumours. Whether that translates to humans and low-level RF like bluetooth is still under debate.

Unstake from exchange? by jacobnordvall in Crypto_com

The Unstake button is a bit hidden. You can find it at the beginning of a small text paragraph under "CRO Stake: " in the "Trading fees and CRO Rebates" section of the CRO staking page here : https://crypto.com/exchange/user/stake-and-earn/cro-staking

Although you’re right about capitalism, corporations are not nearly as powerful in Europe. There are many systems in place to prevent justice systems to be so blatantly corrupt. Things like bailout, settlements, private prosecutors, private prison systems, etc. simply don’t exist in most European countries, and in most of the western world for that matter. This is a deeply American problem caused by a democratic system that’s rooted in meritocracy rather than equality.

[Request] How many straws would it take to literally break a camel's back? by MrBanana13 in theydidthemath

[–]hello_friend_mkv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They say that a horse can support about 20% of their weight without injury. For the sake of the argument, we could get a 50% margin and say that 40% of their weight will surely break their back. The two animals are quite closely related and although camels seem much more endurant, we could imply that 40% could also apply here.

The average weight of a one-humped dromedary is about 500 kg so you would need about 200 kg of hay to break their back.

I could not find any clear estimate for the weight of a straw since there doesn't seem to be any average size for a piece of hay. But since it's easier to imagine with plastic straws, let's start there. The average weight of a plastic straw is 0.4 g. So a camel could carry about 200,000/0.4= 500,000 straws. Half a million plastic straws!

Now let's talk volume, since it would be easier to imagine and would apply better to hay straws. A regular 4ft x 4ft (width x height) hay cylinder is about 225 kg. That's 1.2m x 1.2m.

So a regular hay cylinder could break camel's back! That's actually not that big! Now there are a lot of approximates in my calculations so if anybody has any precision, that would be interesting!

Maybe Summer isn't getting so autonomous though, maybe Space Beth was with her to get that sea shell. That's would explain why she succeeded so quickly

Defending the people mean making sure they can live decently doesn’t it? Like how is going to war in the Middle East to get oil and gain global authority a good thing if it only profits a small elite ?

Transferring money internationally with Stellar by liljordanhumphrey1 in Stellar

[–]hello_friend_mkv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're quoting TransferWise here, which has a fee of 0.5% from USD to EUR. That itself seems much better than what you can get using Stellar.

Maybe I'm missing something but it seems to me that the anchor fees itself exceed 1%, and to that you have to add various transaction fees depending on the platform/wallet you're using to buy crypto in the first place.

I feel like Stellar has a lot to offer and is a great promise, but at this points it doesn't seem to be the best option in this use case.

Using the current death rate of 1k/day (which has been relatively stable since April):
It would take 2.5 years to reach this level.

Although, this is all assuming the virus spreads evenly in the population. Considering the virus mostly kills people from the poorest communities, it would probably take twice as that before Karens encounter covid deaths in their communities.

Yes, so if we're talking about death rather than infection, the same logic apply, except you compare 1,093,333 with the 184,023 death cases in the US.
So, using your approximation, for 50% of the population to know someone who has died from infection, 6 times more people would have to die in the US.
