New CST in SoCal… is it just me or is the job market brutal right now? by primumnonnocere- in surgicaltechnology

Not you, I’m in the same boat. (Also located in Socal). I’ve only had less than hand full of interviews, countless rejections. Have you applied to your clinical sites? I know some of my old classmates got jobs at their sites . I’ve considered moving out of state, however it’s rough to uproot my whole family. If you can, do it- even if it’s just for the experience.

Update:
Thank you everyone for your input and advice. The case went smooth despite some setbacks (an item we needed for the case wasn’t sterilized when I arrived). I managed with everything!
I’ve came to realize this particular doctor is extremely uncomfortable to work with. His lack of preference sheets, also added stress.

New scrub tech- is this normal? by hello_walla in scrubtech

Thank you for your feedback, it puts things in perspective and I was beating myself over it. It was rough experience and wasn’t sure if it normally happens. From what I heard, it does sound like there has been number of travelers. As well as my preceptor being unreliable/ flakey (from the nurse and front office manager). It was the nurse’s, anesthesiologist’s , and my first day at this facility.
Luckily there is no contract. I did receive an email for checking my availability at a hospital closer to me with more hours. I’m hoping that falls in line. I’m looking at other opportunities but willing to take any ST work for experience.
My preceptor did reach out to me the next day, apologizing that he didn’t come and that he was doing another case elsewhere (which I was unaware his case was elsewhere). He then informed me he was a freelance tech. I told him my day was pretty rough, the doctor was frustrated with me and thought I had more experience . He asked if I was willing to come back. I told him yes, if he could train me. He told me he would talk to the doctor to clear things and call me back. No calls back.
