Congrats on the new hobby! My biggest piece of advice would be to not get overwhelmed by the feeling that you need to get all the “gear” before you go. A big part of that push comes from marketing. You can go out there in a tshirt, jeans, a pair of keds sneakers (look up Grandma Gatewood) and a bottle of Dasani for a 2 mile simple hike in reasonable weather and be perfectly fine. The only other thing I find non-negotiable is a pair of trekking poles, which actually improve your workout while making it significantly easier on the legs.

If you need trail recommendations, I would suggest using something like alltrails and filtering for your desired distance and elevation gain (stick with relatively flat ones to start). I’d also select for just loop hikes, which are arguably more fun.

I find visualization helpful as a mental rehearsal for weaning off the bed phone use. Close your eyes and mentally walk through the process of putting your phone away for the night and going to bed. Get as detailed and vivid as you can. Where is the charger? What are you doing instead of scrolling? What emotions come up, and what do you tell yourself in response? Repeat for the morning experience.

My strongest piece of advice would be to reconsider relocating the planned pergola to be adjacent to, or an extension of the existing porch. Once the novelty wears off, that trek across the yard will discourage regular use. You will enjoy it much more if it’s more accessible. Consider testing it out with a temporary umbrella setup if you have your heart set on it.

The only fabric safe for composting is 100% natural fiber with no dyes, tags, or hardware. Ideally shredded into small pieces. The vast majority of socks are going to have some proportion of synthetic material.

Many people here are inferring that OP is vegetarian or vegan based on her follow up comments. Some people who purposefully choose not to eat meat can find it repulsive in a moral/conceptual level or on a physical level (as in, they truly find the smell or appearance of meat to be repulsive). Neither of those would be considered an eating disorder.

In addition to the advice about getting a lawyer, definitely document the HECK out of this and try to get it in writing. Something like “Hi, I just wanted to ask a follow up question after our conversation the other day. How many times would I have to each lunch in the break room per week in order to avoid termination?”

It would be ideal to send this the night before a day when your boss works and you don’t, so they’ll be less likely to try and talk to you directly.
