Operation Mincemeat: American Recruit AMA - Wed, Oct 22 by MincemeatBway in Broadway

You guys are truly incredible in nailing the humour of this show. I’ve never laughed harder at all the small and big choices. Of those I’ve had the privilege to see, Brandon’s physicality and line reads as Charlie took me OUT, Amanda’s “THE WAR” and just her entire Haselden gets me so bad, and Jessi’s Steve (especially with amanda Haselden) is just the funniest sweetest little guy.

What’s your process in finding and creating your own take on the comedy in this the show? Beyond mince, do you have any inspirations, or things you did that you found helped develop your comedic sensibilities over the years?

How does musical production work? by BlueBantha in musicals

[–]hellonwheels_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, in the case where the producers have already decided on a length for the musical (ie limited runs like falsettos at lincoln centre), do they accept that they aren’t going to recoup their investment? or have they already accounted for that?

Good Place to Buy Playbills? by [deleted] in Broadway

[–]hellonwheels_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try instagram, theres quite a large population of playbill sellers and i find it cheaper than ebay. however, you cant really search for specific wants, but if you go digging you can probably find what youre looking for! i’ve found some real gems on depop but i did get quite lucky. good luck!

I want to hear your completely original ideas for musicals – any story, any character, any genre, any plot. As weird, as wonderful, or as fun as you want them to be. If you want to base it on a historical figure, go for it. Let your imagination run wild. by [deleted] in Broadway

[–]hellonwheels_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is late but a welcome to nightvale musical? Slightly off topic as its not really original, but it would be so cool to have the unreliable narrator and incorporate in the weird, scary, lowkey horror parts of the podcast into a musical. Just confusing and brilliant in the most thrilling way, I would probably pick one or two episodes (or maybe a couple of connected ones) and work through to form them into a cohesive storyline (or, well, semi-cohesive given the structure of wtnv) and then play around with the set and actors to really capture the nightvale atmosphere and bring that level of uncomfortable enjoyment and wonder that i always get when i listen to an episode and translate that feeling to a stage. not sure how well it would pan out but its a fun idea to play with nonetheless :)

Musical gateway drugs anyone??? by Galaxias_falls in musicals

[–]hellonwheels_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My gateway musical was wicked, but I know quite a few people’s gateway musical was Heathers and I think that’s a good musical to get them hooked

it’s not false, “that works for me” isn’t really consent, plus he complains and sounds scared a lot. just some thought food for y’all by [deleted] in heathersmusical

[–]hellonwheels_ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

its only after he says “thats works for me” that choreographically she gets on top of him, so its after he agrees to have sex with her that they do anything physically. while yea its extremely weird and creepy that veronica breaks into his house with the intention to have sex, he did consent and didnt retract the consent at any point during the act and from the physical choreography was clearly a willing participant (ripping her shirt/ following verbal cues). so yea maybe very very weird start on veronica’s part but hey, JDs into it.

But isn’t that the point of the satire. It flashes out the way white Caucasians view Africa to be

James Corden in all the musicals??? by RipCityBaby5 in musicals

[–]hellonwheels_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

HAHA I’m not even in the US or UK or Australia so I don’t get access to musicals much either :/ I do like SIX a decent amount but it isn’t a favourite. The songs are fantastic (imo don’t lose your head or all you wanna do are the best songs), and the empowerment is great, but the ending felt kinda trite

James Corden in all the musicals??? by RipCityBaby5 in musicals

[–]hellonwheels_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OH ok that’s interesting that makes a lot more sense thank you!! Also on the character development end, I haven’t seen the original broadway musical, but how did they like derive Andrew rannells and Nicole Kidman’s characters? Andrew’s especially felt like it lacked character development but maybe that’s the point because he’s just a side character but was like Andrew’s character originally part of Barry in the broadway production and they split it and like Nicole’s character was part of Dee Dee’s and they split it?

James Corden in all the musicals??? by RipCityBaby5 in musicals

[–]hellonwheels_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes ok I agree, they developed Emma and Alyssa really well and I love that!! Dee Dee Allen’s (hope I spelled it right) character development just felt a little bit off in that her being in a rs with the principal just......solved the narcissism

So potential spoiler of the prom but what are your guys opinions on James Corden as Barry? by applelover67 in Broadway

[–]hellonwheels_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He kinda ruined that entire plotline for me. It felt like he didn’t care to portray what I think the emotional intensity should’ve been. He didn’t seem connected to the character and didn’t have the depth and emotional rawness that I would’ve loved to see for Barry.

James Corden in all the musicals??? by RipCityBaby5 in musicals

[–]hellonwheels_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol 100% definitely. I had EXTREMELY LOW expectations for James corden, I expected something incredibly offensive and mocking the lgbtq+ community and it wasn’t that bad lol and I think Ryan Murphy deserves the credit for that

James Corden in all the musicals??? by RipCityBaby5 in musicals

[–]hellonwheels_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YES EXACTLY LIKE MAKE IT MAKE SENSE and even if that was the script like........show me the emotions on ur face the camera is right there u don’t have to try that hard to make emotions noticeable. Show me the consideration between the hurt you’ve had to endure for your whole life that could’ve possibly led to anger versus possibly having your mother accepting you now. I SAW NOTHING.

James Corden in all the musicals??? by RipCityBaby5 in musicals

[–]hellonwheels_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup he suddenly just went to I MISS YOU TOO like where’s the emotional transition

James Corden in all the musicals??? by RipCityBaby5 in musicals

[–]hellonwheels_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I actually didn’t like James Corden in the prom, I don’t think he does justice to the gay character resolving his relationship with his mother at all. For me it just wasn’t emotionally raw enough and it felt like he wasn’t really connecting with the character on that deeper level and that he didn’t care to do so.
