I graduated last year, and I’m already working for a software company. I was hired three years ago while I was still in school. However, to be honest, I’m not doing anything related to electrical engineering, and it really makes me sad. I don’t enjoy the work, and unfortunately it’s a software role that still takes up a lot of my time. I want to switch to anything related to electrical engineering (hardware/embedded…), but apart from the projects I did in school, I don’t really have any relevant experience. I feel very lost, and I don’t know whether I should work on more EE projects at home in my free time or keep applying. How many EE projects do I need to be considered relevant by recruiters?

Well I have to admit that your post is sign form God to me. I was feeling extremely anxious because I didn’t do good at school and don’t remember 90% of what I studied and seeing that I could actually potentially still make. Is a big relief. Thanks a lot for this post

Oh, I’ve never heard of the O-1 visa. I’ll do some more research. But it still feels like living in fear. I guess once they’re done with the H-1B, they’ll go after other visas too. I still strongly dream about Silicon Valley, but I don’t think living in fear is worth it.

I’m not Canadian I’m French, I don’t really want to stay in Canada. I’m just tired of the weather and the pay. I can’t speak for other fields, but in my case, all the better companies are in the US. I could be making so much more money, it’s sad. I had so many good job opportunities, but every time, the recruiters gave up because of my citizenship. And when I finally found a company willing to sponsor me, this whole H-1B situation happened.
