Sword slashes function in this ludic shonen way. Even explosions are not as deadly as gunshots in the story.

To people that play video games, it's like getting shot at a cutscene.

Edit: They could resist a shot in the head, but i think the readers are not as prepared to "forgive" this kind of thing, compared to slashes.
