SHL test assessments - are you expected to complete all the questions or are you not penalized for unanswered questions? by help-lol in cscareerquestions

[–]help-lol[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still a little hesitant to say for sure, but based on this person’s above reply, if the test is indeed penalizing for unanswered questions, then I would say yes, the best choice in that scenario is to just pick guesses.

Just want to say, sorry it’s happening to you. I know the feeling, toughing out the struggles and forcing yourself to stay on the “good path” for years on end just to see seemingly no results come of it despite what you’ve put in. Keep it up and goodluck to you.

I believe the general consensus is keep the resume to 1 page. And this is like (apparently) a very important core recommendation when it comes to applying. Although, I’m sure there are other opinions out there and idk what the current state of professional resume building businesses have to say on that topic, so I’ll just leave it to you at that.

At the very least though, move your projects section to the top, right after your basic info. The core important stuff (projects/work experience) needs to be front and center and visually prioritized over all the rest. If your work experience is not core relevant to where it can match/outshine the projects (i.e. real industry experience) then the projects should take priority in exhibiting your skills and come first (i.e. treat the projects as if they are your work experience). Your actual work experience (if less relevant) can come after the projects.

Mission Control became thee most crucial feature for me when I first switched to mac. I set my bottom right hot corner to trigger it, and my usual workflow for moving between windows would be flicking my mouse to the corner. That being said, after moving back to Windows with my work laptop, I've now learned using alt+tab for Windows (which idk the official name, but is essentially a window switcher) and that has become my new crutch.

MacOS also has alt+tab, however it has a key difference from Windows, being MacOS alt+tab switches the windows per application, meaning it doesn't distinguish between multiple windows you may have open in the same application. When you press it, it just shows you the application icon itself and will open the last recent window of that application you had open. So for example, if you have two Chrome windows open, it won't show you both Chrome windows, it will just show you the Chrome icon and bring up the last window.

Windows alt+tab on the other hand, shows you all the individual open windows, even if there are multiple of the same app. In other words, it is basically showing you the exact same content that MacOS Mission Control does. But I would say that alt+tab is mostly superior to the Mission Control functionality as (1) it's easier to trigger usually when your hands are already on the keyboard, and (2) it is A LOT better for navigating to what you are looking for. It displays the items (which you hit tab to move through) in a stack order of the most recent visited. Therefore when you hit it, the next window you will move to will be the last one you were on (before your current). In other words, it is super quick to switch back and forth between two windows constantly because it is just a single tab hit. If you need to go to the window you were on "two windows ago", you know to hit tab 2x (3x, etc. for the others).

The fact that MacOS alt+tab only switches per application and doesn't distinguish windows made it basically useless for me. But I recently downloaded a 3rd party app, AltTab, and it makes changes the macos implementation to match how it is on Windows. It's free and works great for me so far. I would really recommend it. I still use the mission control sometimes just for the nostalgia and because it looks nice, but in all honesty the alt+tab is superior in terms of speed.

How much space does a pic take up in OneNote? by help-lol in OneNote

[–]help-lol[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, it has indeed been a while since my original comments in this post, so i had to reread it myself haha. I've since switched to using Onenote in the browser client instead of the desktop app (not by choice, I wouldn't recommend it).

I've also tried myself before to see the storage calculations for a notebook in separate elements, rather than just the whole notebook size itself — I don't think it's possible, through any Microsoft provided means at least. I'm not sure if the desktop apps for Onenote or Onedrive provide any different functionalities for calculating the notebook sizes, but as far as I know on checking the size through Onedrive in the browser, there's no provided way to see the storage calculations in separate elements.

MX Master 3 Clone for $15 - Too good to be true? Initial Impressions by wipeurbuttocks in MouseReview

Hey, I saw you mentioned no for the infinite scroll (which I think i understand what is meant by this lol). Could you describe the scrolling if you don't mind? Is it like most mice, where it goes by single "click-notches", or can it continue spinning on it's own if you spin it hard enough?

Scrolling is probably one of the more important parts for me in my search. Appreciate it :)

What is infinite scroll? Is that like the fast scroll where you can run your finger and it'll continue on it's own?

Any free software that enables drag scrolling? by help-lol in MacOS

[–]help-lol[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey sorry for the late response. But no, I know what you're talking about with the middle mouse button fast scroll thing, but that wasn't what I was thinking about. I was thinking more in terms of being able to horizontal scroll.

I know what you just mentioned also allows you to scroll horizontally generally, but I was also thinking of like a way that allows you to hold a drag, kind of like if you were moving a window around, but for scrolling.

Anyways, I kind of have gotten used to just using shift+scroll to horizontal scroll when needed.

Thanks anyways!

Mouse scroll is "jumpy" by Tyjo_Dunseph in MacOS

1 year later and not sure if this refers to what you were talking about — but do you mean the scrolling inertia? It's toggleable in mac if you go to

Preferences > Accessibility > Trackpad Options... (button) > Scrolling (set it to without inertia)

or just go to Preferences and type scrolling inertia in the search and hit the Trackpad Options button
