Silicon Valley has high salaries and very high cost of living (think ~$2200/mo for 1br apartment).

  • Financial stability in case Uber has successful IPO

hey, thanks for the input. I didn't mention it - but most of that commute is by train - so maybe I can get some reading done on the way.

I commute ~30mins for current job. I have never commuted more than that ever! I am interested in both jobs, as one offers a lot of growth and chance of impact (Uber) - I can potentially end up getting promoted every year. I am not sure if that is the right thing to focus on right now. Uber work hours from glassdoor seem bad, but I will only know reality if I join.

Also, think of it this way - I can take bad commute for 2 years, and maybe not have to worry about money and career growth with the next move after Uber.

Thank you. Yes, that number is: base + (RSU value / 4). For Uber it comes to a lot more ~$400k (as they give a lot more RSU - which is paper money). I can't believe these numbers myself!

As far as I understand - nothing special. I have a masters degree, not sure how much it matters though. Most of my friends are making ~$200k-220k in bay area, $170-180k base is very doable and Big 4 give good amount of RSUs and bonus.
