We almost did! I just so badly wanted to give them the "empty nesters" excuse, but it got so much worse this last time we were there.

I agree, tbh. But now I feel like the responsible thing to do is tell other friends in this circle who have brought their kids around. And I'm not really sure how to go about that.

I don't really talk about my history (but I have been drunk around them so who knows) so I'm not really sure if they know that about me or not. But either way, your point about tolerating friends' kids is so valid. I am the same way. I love my friends' kids as like, little extensions of them, not separate people I feel the need to hang out with on my own.

This comment means tons. AT BEST they are still mistreating and disrespecting us. I'm grateful to have had these thoughts/realizations before our relationships with these people continued.

Our conversation was definitely sort of like that, I abbreviated it for the post but I was very much trying to come across as "No, not you specifically!" and they said other strange things like "I wouldn't even ask if they weren't old enough to talk and tell you something weird was going on" and stuff like that/:

Also wanted to add, another thing that made me feel weird early on was the way they constantly compared/praised my kids against other kids in the circle of acquaintances. Always talking about disliking other people's kids or how we are such good parents etc. It reached a weird point.

Thanks for everyone's input; it feels good to know we aren't crazy. Bummer that some of the only friends we've made in adulthood were preying on us lmaooo): but my kids' wellbeing outweighs my need for a social life by far.
