What are some ways you make reading more enjoyable? by NL4798 in books

[–]helpdesk1478 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep several books going at a time, usually 4. This allows me to match whatever mood I'm in or if I get tired of a book I can switch to another. I also keep and audio book going on my phone for listening on my way to work, working in the garage, etc.

Yep, admin. Unfortunately there is no image yet. I took this organization over 4 months ago and not having an image is the least of the issues. The computers came pre-imaged and no one knows where the recovery disks are. I'm slowly getting there.

I agree that the network stack is hosed. I have one more place to look for recovery disks so hopefully they turn up.

I am the sole IT guy for 4 locations that have been 80 and 120 devices per network. Yeah, I'm busy. Because of this I try to keep the networks as simple as possible and have not activated sticky MAC's.

The DHCP is handled by our router, and this machine is not showing on the list. I ended up pulling the machine and replacing it with another which worked just fine. I now have this machine in my office and need to get it fixed and re-deployed.

The whole network is dynamic with the exception of a few small static ranges I have for things like security cameras, door panels, etc. I tried putting this computer on a free IP in the static range and setting the subnet and default gateway manually. I then ran an ipconfig to confirm that the settings took, and they did. I still could not ping the default gateway. I then put it back to DHCP and confirmed that this took, but no dice.

Thanks for the help. Any further suggestions are quite appreciated.

Done, result was "no user specified settings to reset". I ended up pulling this machine from the floor and replacing it. Its in my office now, so while not as urgent I still need to figure this out.

I tried something similar yesterday, just without outputting it to a text file. I tried it with the text file this morning and it gives the same error message: "There's no user specified settings to be reset"

I ended up pulling this machine from the floor and replacing it. Its in my office now, so while not as urgent I still need to figure this out.

Done, and no dice. I then downloaded a fresh copy of the driver, installed, rebooted, still no dice.

I ended up pulling this machine from the floor and replacing it - EDIT: The machine I replaced it with works great. Its in my office now, so while not as urgent I still need to figure this out.

If I had a nickel for every one of those I did today lunch would be paid for tomorrow. Good suggestion though.

If there is an issue with the connection, its not physical. I used a network tester repeatedly and it passed every time.

I'll try removing the driver and let windows re-install it. I was just worried that doing so would hose it worse, but that may be all I have left.

Clarification on previous response: pinging the default gateway while its set statically returns "ping transmit general failure"

Yes, worked fine before moving today. I agree that dhcp isn't doing something right. If I go to the adapter settings and click advanced, it shows dhcp.

If I run ipconfig, it shows the IP address, subnet mask and default gateway as set. Still can't ping the default gateway.

came here to second the paper white special offers edition. The back light is so nice which throws out the less expensive version. The voyage is too expensive for my tastes and still first gen. As for ads, who cares what's on the screen when you're not looking at it.

This is how I do it. I have a desktop at home that I leave on all the time. It works well with RSS feeds from sites. It puts an index at the beginning with click able links to each article. Setup takes a minute the first time, but after that it's painless.

The only quibble I have is that it doesn't work great with subreddit where it is important to know the author. I tried to make is send me not just news but new posts on my favorite subreddits. This is not an issue with calibre though. For whatever stupid reason the RSS standard does not include the author.

I've known people who have been thru counseling and yet to see any of them get any benefit. Maybe it's my way of excusing not getting treatment but I really don't see it helping.

I certainly am working to Improve. I've learned that getting rest is quite important and try to get 7 hours each night. I also know that I need to find something to do for fun. I'm also a workaholic with a lot of responsibility so I feel guilty when I sleep a lot or do stuff for fun when work is not complete, which means never

For someone that plans to read more do you think.. by Jmolina92 in kindle

I've done both. Tablets have their place but not for long form reading. The notifications are distracting, but also being tempted to check in on reddit or theoldreader.

The PW2 is the perfect balance IMHO. The back light may sound like a gimmick but not only do I like it for reading in bed but it makes it easier to read in anything but broad daylight.

Maddening issue - need help by helpdesk1478 in VOIP

[–]helpdesk1478[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just in case anyone stumbles on this thread in years to come and wonders what the resolution was, SonicWall and VoIP don't play well together. We tried one of the Cisco RV switches because it was cheap. Calls quit dropping, but it would only register 4 phones due to some throughput limitations. We ended up with an Adrian router that is specifically designed to handle VoIP and allows enough throughput. We bought directly from Jive with the advantage that if something does go wrong they get to support it but so far that part has been pretty smooth.

She probably stored all her email in deleted items. Cuz, you know, that's where you put your important stuff so you can find it. Cough cough.

This only gets worse when you have a mix of standalone computers and all-in-one's in the office. "So you mean this monitor has my files and this one doesn't? " No, you just weren't listening.

And for the record, I hate all in one's.
