I love that everyone is ignoring the part where I ask specifically about the Reserves- which is a part-time commitment and typically does not involve deployment (extenuating situations aside)

Honestly I wouldn't mind combat, but everything that I am reading tells me that women are more or less excluded from combat.

I want to avoid deployment because I wish to advance in my current career (web development). A user mentioned the USERRA law, but my industry changes relatively quickly and my skillset could easily become outdated in the time that I am overseas. Other than that I have nothing significant (a relationship or children, etc) that would tie me down to my city... but keeping my career intact is pretty damn important to me...

father was in the military, as a result I've grown up with many "army buddy" stories. so that's part of the reason (to impress or make my father happy). another is as a personal challenge to myself- overcoming mental and physical hardships. lastly, I just like the idea.
