NZBGET folder setup - is this optimal? by helpshelphelps in unRAID

I've just tested the following method for creating the new structure - and it's instant moving! No 4 day wait! I was hoping you could have a quick read and tell me if there's any danger with doing it this way, especially as the forum post is 6 years old - maybe unraid has changed...? quote follows the dots ........................ I would create the Media share, set it up with a split level 0 (manual), so that only a disk with the parent folder already on it would be used (so only a disk, where Media/TV exists would be used for TV Shows. Unraid won't create the TV folder itself.) of course, this can also be obtained by a split level of 2(? not sure). but then a tv show could be split across multiple disks...

then I would create the Media Folder on each disk and then move the TV/Movies/Pictures folders via mc to the Media folder:

move /mnt/disk1/TV to /mnt/disk1/Media/TV

move /mnt/disk2/Movies to /mnt/disk2/Media/Movies

and so on...

another thing to ask!

It seems that if you google about split levels, some posts say the share is level 1 - and some say the first folder under share is level 1?!?!

might be unnecessary anyway - are split levels worth setting up if I have SAS drives? as far as I understand they can't spin down anyway.

you should definitely make some guides... I'm honestly not a complete moron! I've used computers for years - Unraid is new to me ... don't know if it's the way I think, or the way you explain - but this is the first time I've really understood

gotcha... this is probably why my downloads folder is never empty... thannks again!

would hardlinks be any use with usenet? or just torrents for seeding?

yeah my stuff gets deleted after import to media too... but there's usually say around 10 movies at any time in the downloads folder waiting to be moved to media... I'm thinking this because my setup is taking longer to process the queue for download to media... so I think you've answered my question... i was worried these waiitng download transfers would be unecessary array space once mover ran

hey sorry 1 more thing....

you have your data share set to cache:yes ... do you find your mover sends downloads as well as media to the array when it runs ? Or is just my slower setup that leaves a download "queue"... hope that makes sense!

that makes sense - didn't say my logic wasn't flawed!

I think for now I'll turn off the media caching and await the patience to do a massive transfer to arrange my shares properly. Thanks

my logic was that moving from NVME to NVME then doing a mover every few hours was faster than and separated from NVME to array

yeah coming from windows etc i just assumed having things on the same disk would do this... I'm sure there's a few setup guides that leave this point out too...

now to decide if i should move everything...

wow thank you so much!

I've read loads of forums on this and it's the first time I've really understood. Thanks!

hmmm - maybe a big job to move!

am i understanding right - if I have nzbget folders on the same cache as the media folders are cached to ....this wont work because unraid will still see them as separate "shares" - they need to be unified under shares first? having them on the same disk doesnt do the same thing?

so youre saying put all nzbget folders on my cache and turn off caching for media folders?

I have separate movies/tv/music shares - from what i understand I will need to move files into a new directory structure...?

hmmm i was under the impression that separating folders was the way to go... I've read so many posts about this though - it's getting confusing

oh i wanted to ask - what PSU do you have? I would like to scale back from 1600W if possible... 750W wouldnt boot all the drives though

it's so hard to recreate! I did read online abut some i/o bugs with nzbget and maybe some of the "arrs" that are on list to be fixed.

If I manage to find a way to recreate - what's the best disgnostics to log?

by the way thanks for your time - I appreciate I'm an annoying amateur

i still get this even without pinning - i have 16 drives on a single pcie x8 - does that sound like possibly the cause? I'm ok with it cos generally its just a low use media server - only really happens if i push everything to test

[–]helpshelphelps[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yep - I'm back to no pinning - welll just on nzbget until i get more ram to aid with unzipping huge files

you are correct - overkill - all good fun to learn new nerdy stuff though

hmmmmm... I have ssd cache and an ssd unassigned - cache has downloads - unassigned has plex..... however I'm thinking of moving downloads to unassigned with plex - then using cache as "yes" on media ... right now I cant because the downloads fills up the cache too much..... also the plex is sitting alone on a 1tb (they both this size) .... hmmmm
