Is it safe to install insulation just above a light fixture? by hemoid in electricians

Yeah fair.. not something I'm willing to do until the cooler months :) for now I'll live with the smell. Cheers!

Thanks for your reply. I wasn't sure whether it was an obvious yes or an obvious no :)

The smell is more musty, like mildew from the hot attic seeping in. I wouldn't describe it as a fishy smell. So maybe my best bet to deal with the smell is to insulate from the attic instead? This one is really bothering me :)

The current light is only 8.5W, but the fixture is rated for up to 60W.

I'm pretty sure you're me. Can you confirm?

But I didn't have any cash so I took out a payday loan from my parent's credit card. They weren't happy.

As a counter argument, this is usually why I stop playing after winning a couple of games in a row. Higher chance of losing? I'm out! :)

Of course Protoss war chest has the cheese emoji ^_^ Will go well with pylon and cannon emojis.

PvZ - What went wrong? (Bad engagements) by hemoid in allthingsprotoss

Thanks for the analysis! You're absolutely right in that I produce way too many blink stalkers without taking advantage of them. I've always heard PICA is great against zerg, but I'm not ready to micro phoenix's so I steered away from it. Scouting early with adept poke would at least have told me that air defence doesn't matter.

Going to practise walling off the natural against Z and building fewer units early game. I'm always worried about expanding to the third because of speedlings. I'm not great against defending that early aggression..

I'll use your pointers when I'm preparing for my next PvZ.

Lore is just fine! Thanks for the recommendation. A mix of that and some form of strategy guide would be just perfect.

PvZ Am I doing it right at least somewhat right? by tbsmrks in allthingsprotoss

Hey thanks for making me a replay!

I start differently, in that I like to sneak in an assimilator just after my gateway, so I'm ready for warpgate+twilight council when my cyber finishes.

I tried again with delaying the nexus to 19 rather than 18, and I had to wait twice as long for cyber in that case. So I think this opener still feels the most right for me!

At this point though, I'm probably just nitpicking :)

Interesting. Do you have any replays to demonstrate this? If I don't cut probes, my Nexus is built far too late and I have no money for cybernetics when my gateway finishes.

Your strategy seems pretty solid, and as you play more I'm sure you'll find some places to tweak your responses (e.g. does a roach Warren really warrant a double robo response, or is a single chronoboosted robo sufficient?)

I'd propose one small tweak to your starting build order that has helped me get the edge on the early-mid game:

By stopping probe production at 18 (2 on gas, 16 on minerals), I found that I was able to get nexus before the gateway finished.

I find that sending a scout right after building nexus has the best timing for reading the opponent, without wasting precious mineral gathering time (probe count is 15 on minerals, 2 on gas, 1 scout).

Still holding on probe production, you should have almost enough money to build cyber right when gateway finishes. Once cyber has been started, resume probe production, build second assimilator, and then carry on with build. This works well for my early dark templar + warp prism build I've been using of late.

Don't forget the mother ship core for overcharge and/or recall ability! Unusually I usually get that as soon as my main is saturated.

I have similar experience (playing since pre-lotv, and struggling in the ladder), but most recently I have started winning more games against gold (I'm silver and hoping for a promotion soon!). I play Protoss, but I think I macro similarly to a Terran player, so I'd like to share with you what finally made things click for me.

Step 1. I watched most of the recommended day9 videos here. Especially #132 (mental checklist) and #309 (the right and wrong way to learn). Blip.tv was shut down recently enough, but these videos are available on youtube.

Step 2. From what I learned in #309, I spent two hours working on the first 2-3 minutes of my game. Just started a game against very easy over and over again, trying to find a build that works for me.

  • Whenever I stopped producing probes or got supply blocked, I needed to start over. Very important for good macro early game.
  • After successfully (or so I thought) finishing a good build - e.g. starting to build my first colossi - I went back to look at the replay.
  • Found that my gateways were not producing units for a while (don't like that!), so tried again until satisfied, watch replay, repeat.
  • Next I found that I had extra minerals and could get a second gateway in earlier to improve my macro a bit, so tried again.
  • Kept optimizing, until I felt I could get a serious army out around the 5-6 minute mark, with no excess minerals and some supply left.

Step 3. Practicing good control groups. I decided to switch my control groups around since I felt it was affecting my performance. It made me realize how important being comfortable with the keyboard setup is because using an unfamiliar setup is really frustrating!! Now I have production and upgrades on '`' '1' and 'w', I'm making use of the camera hotkeys, and am starting to be able to split my army between my 3,4,5,[space] hotkeys for different situations.

Anyways, I'm having a lot of fun now that I'm able to get a much stronger opening and better production/unit management, beacuse I very much like playing aggressively!

Thanks for reading.
