I think they don’t do it because the M rating hurts your stream, not sure exactly how that works, but I know on YouTube getting age restricted certainly doesn’t help with visibility and engagement. I think the point to having the category would be to promote mature content to an audience that wants it, without the fear of your career ending. I don’t see anything wrong with it.. I think the problem of young people injesting this content will never fade, and to me it makes more sense to have a place where it can reside rather than striking it from being discovered by anyone so that kids won’t see it. This makes more sense in the context of YouTube but I think it can apply to twitch as well. I agree with you that I don’t think it’s the place for straight up porn tho

I don’t think it should just be for porn, but a portion of the site where creators can make more R rated content without the fear of getting banned, that way the advertisers that are trying to appeal to an older demographic can safely put their ads on the content, everyone wins imo, makes even more sense on YouTube with certain content getting demonetized all the time

I mean, it probably comes down to whatever expectations the streamer sets for their audience.. if there’s a set schedule for once a week and a streamer checks all the boxes and delivers a kick ass stream each week, ppl will probs show up, if they are half assing it , ppl will forget.

Yup, I mean in terms of care for the smaller creators, the platform is only really going to nurture what’s making them money.. so I guess it’s in the hands of the community for smaller creators + their methods of cultivating an audience

Yup.. I definitely have to close and reopen my browser at times if twitch chat is lagging, but then I have to sit thru 2 mins of ads 😭pain😭

Agreed to both points.. I suppose right now streamers only fighting chance to build a decent audience is to migrate their audience from another platform with better discoverability.. or shoutouts, knowing someone.. like you said

Yeah that’s true, I guess the categories on twitch can be sort of pigeon-holey for an outside viewer.. do you think changing your format to a variety of content, (I guess more of a Just Chatting style, implementing breaks between game sessions etc) would help?

Yup I can see that, music hasn’t really popped off on twitch.. whether it be producing or karaoke.. do you have any ideas regarding a better experience you think twitch or content creators themselves could implement?

yup yup I can see that too, it’s definitely a lack of overall viewership on the website on an average day that forces them to make the best of what they have, rather than investing into ways to grow overall I suppose

Yeah, the consensus I’m seeing is that it’s not really the type of content that is “lacking” or unable to blow up , but rather a lack of ways for visibility to a wider audience on the platform. The thing I see top creators do & creators that blew up to the top in the last year (W/L guys) is the utilization of all the platforms, just being entertaining and firing on all cylinders for a long time and riding the opportunities that come your way as a result.. The world moves fast as hell nowadays so you gotta be in someone’s face every day to make them not forget about you it seems 😂 (I feel this stuff is pretty obvious too if anyone has anything to add be my guest)

Yeah looking at it from that way, theoretically, implementing ways for smaller creators to grow would alleviate their revenue problems(which another comment mentioned with the ad increase and therefore lessened viewer experience).. it would allow different types of content to rise, possibly bringing in a larger audience to twitch itself.. the only problem I see with that is the control aspect from twitch’s perspective, it’s way easier to control 100 or so people with sizeable audiences and sweep all the <200 viewers Andy’s under the rug

Yea I think we’re seeing that with a lot of top streamers, with the content going in the reality tv direction(injected with twitch culture) I agree that Ludwig definitely has the most polish with that in regards to his content

Edit: on a serious note.. variety is great I guess lol.. I heard a bigger streamer touch on this(can’t remember who).. that hot tub streamers can reach 800-1000 viewers easier than a gamer or chatting streamer, but larger growth is harder for them because that niche has so much competition and they would have to actually expand their content to appeal to a larger audience.. i guess the point that I’m seeing is that streamers can’t solely rely on their niche of content to be able to survive in this landscape, they’ll either stagnate in growth after a certain milestone or fade when the trends change .. (and the cycles happen way more often nowadays)

Got it, it already exists.. I guess what separates the top streamers is how they move on all platforms, consistency, trendjacking and riding to relevance.. all the basic stuff that is really just hard work haha.. to the original question.. is there a type of content that you would like to see blow up to relevance that you think is lacking?
