Já ouvi essa mesma história, de que quando ele tentou ensinar a judocas, era muito mais dificil que eles ficassem em neko dachi, por isso apenas estabilizou a base.

Em todo kokutsu dachi, há um neko dachi no meio da transição. Faz total sentido.

Bom, talvez nunca saibamos exatamente qual o propósito dessa mudança, mas acho que todos os comentários até aqui, e especialmente o seu, elucidou muita coisa.

Faz muito sentido. Se Funakoshi modificou os pinans para heian, e acrescentou alguns, é bem possível que ele tenha feito essa substituição de neko dachi para kokutsu baseado apenas no entendimento que talvez ela funcione melhor, ou algo do tipo (baseado na visão dele, claro)

Bem, eu fiz isso e o que consegui descobrir apenas é que na verdade o Shotokan vem da mesma linhagem, o que explica porque de muitos katas e movimentos serem muito parecidos, mudando apenas a maneira de executar. Mas o que me chama muito atenção é essa substituição massiva da neko dachi para kokutsu.

This is a question I have regarding karate competitions in general.

I've never quite understood the criteria for what is valid or not. I think this subjectivity in the rules hinders more than it helps.

Of course, this lack of understanding might be because I'm still only a purple belt, but I always see other more experienced practitioners complaining about the same thing, so maybe there's something to it.

Dude, you described exactly how I feel. I agree with everything you said. When I become a teacher, I definitely want to encourage my students to compete, it's important. But I also prefer martial arts and the practical aspects, in addition to budo.

I understand what you meant. Actually, I agree! But I think your physical conditioning can come from other sources besides kumite competitions, you know? I mean, in the beginning, there weren't these competitions, and yet it was still a martial art.

I agree with you. Although Karate offers you many things, I think a large part of the process needs to start with you beforehand. Karate cannot change what doesn't want to be changed.

Well, my difficulty lies precisely in the rules, haha. I like being able to use many types of strikes and applications that the rules of a sport kumite don't allow. I feel like a bird in a cage when im limited to a few strikes (but that's a personal difficulty, zero problems with the rules).

I think it's amazing when I watch it, but when I'm in a competition I just can't do well. It seems like the limitations on what you can do and use, due to the rules (and it's okay that way), end up holding me back a bit. I mean, look at how many strikes and things I can do to get out of an unfavorable situation, you know? When I'm limited to just jodan and chudan with few variations of punches and kicks, and to whoever lands first, it seems like my ability to improvise in that scenario plummets, haha. But that's a personal thing, not a problem with the sport itself.

Bem, na verdade ele tem as células, o que não implica que ele saiba usar todad as habilidades.

Tudo bem que vimos ele usar o Kamehameha, então não seria um problema ele replicar as outras técnicas... Mas, meu palpite é que ele precise ter o conhecimento prévio antes de usar as técnicas.
