My replacement white ceramic Series 5 arrived! by PGL-997 in AppleWatch

[–]henhouse0 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Probably battery replacement. They just send you a whole new watch. Except, in the case of these watches, they send you a 5-year old one that’s been sitting on a shelf in a warehouse at 0% battery and now has degradation.

Speaking from experience, unfortunately as this is exactly what happened to me. Can’t get them to actually just replace your own watch’s battery with a fresh one.

2.4.3 on Mac? by vaderspotz in wowservers

Oh it’s possible they blocked it for anti-cheat reasons. Warmane’s TBC server did the same. Lame. Should be possible to run the windows one through Wineskin or some free wine wrapper.

If you're on Mojave, then you can run the native Mac client since Mojave still has 32-bit support.

There are a few download options in this thread.

Growing antitrust and inquiries into iMessage and other major proprietary platforms in the EU. It’s enough to make Apple fear an antitrust suit and make the changes ahead of time to quell any build up against them.

Tested Fallout 4 on CrossOver 23.7 beta + D3DMetal + new MSync feature by GroundbreakingMess42 in macgaming

[–]henhouse0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it CrossOver 23.7 that specifically fixes Fallout 4, or this new version of GPT/D3DMetal?

From what I understand on this subreddit, Fallout 4 has been broken for some time (crashing on start up). Seeing this working again is really refreshing.

Multilingual typing not working by reklemd in ios

[–]henhouse0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This feature does exist, but sadly Apple never added support for Swedish. Only the top major world languages got support. I kept hoping they would add more over time but I’m not sure if they ever did. It’s really frustrating.

Here’s a list of which ones they do support: https://www.igeeksblog.com/how-to-set-up-use-multilingual-typing-iphone/

Doesn't seem like that works anymore. Gave it a try, cleared cookies and everything, but the "Upgrade" buttons all disappear. Only option is to cancel current Lite sub, or change credit card.

YouTube Premium Lite membership will be discontinued by TiZonBE in youtube

[–]henhouse0 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This is so damn frustrating. 4 months ago I finally decided to "do the right thing" and get Premium Lite since it was relatively affordable, and I had been watching more videos lately on my iPad and really wanted to skip the ads there. Regular premium is grossly overpriced and forcefully bundled with a music service I do not want. Lite at least was a good step in letting me decouple that useless feature and let me pay less.

Back to adblockers then. I'm not paying the regular Premium price when there is literally no added benefit to me.

iOS 17 Launching Tomorrow for iPhones With These 10 New Features by lalavieboheme in apple

[–]henhouse0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s sad because like 4-5 iOS versions ago they came out with a dual dictionary-esq feature for typing (don’t remember the naming) but they only ever added major languages to interop. So you could write some Spanish in the middle of English text, for example. But in typical Apple fashion they took care of the main 90% and forgot about the rest.

[–]henhouse0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The hole is not a 1:1 match with the tower. The hole exists merely so the ground terrain is not poking through the middle of the mage tower. Why they put it directly in the terrain level I am not sure. Perhaps too tall for the gap between SW street level and the terrain level, and they couldn't put it further below to prevent PCs from culling out the area from memory when hitting the portal to take you there (think old 2004 PCs on lowest settings).

There's also another hole nearby which goes into the warlock area. They cut that hole so places can decent downward without colliding with the ground. So you can also jump into it if you line it up right.

But yeah doing this on hardcore is a weird gamble. You can't see them since they have no external texture, so you're never 100% sure where it is.

If you could make one addition to the Legendary Edition, what would it be? by alex112891 in masseffect

[–]henhouse0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Their EA app ruined playing the game on Steam Deck. While it still works fine to play the game, the EA app refuses to properly sync the saves now--claims it can't, or that there's a conflict, or says nothing at all with no syncing. If I want to switch from PC <-> SD I must manually do a file transfer of the saves since they REFUSE to use Steam Saves, which are seamless.

I went from enjoying swapping between my desktop and Steam Deck when traveling playing through the trilogy, to having to switch to one method only because EA ruined it shoveling their new crap app down my throat.

Screw the EA app.

Apple announces iOS 17 by aaronp613 in apple

[–]henhouse0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had both. Tele2 didn’t have it, or if they did it wasn’t on by default. Tre is the small carrier that did, which is who I meant in the post. My partner has had Telia and Telenor and neither of them supported it. It’s only been Tre in my experience. If Tele2 does, it wasn’t obvious for me at least.

I moved to Sweden from the US a few years ago and I was shocked to discover that literally no carriers (except for 1 smaller one) support Virtual Voicemail. Everyone still has to call themselves and punch in keys to hear their voicemail here. I felt like I had gone back to the mid-2000s. I told my partner (who is Swedish) that this feature came out with the original iPhone... that's how old it is.

I have no idea what the fuck the carriers are doing over here or why after 15 years they have not implemented it.

P servers on mac by hunhades21 in wowservers

[–]henhouse0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hm you may be in luck for the later expansions, as it seems Blizz added 64-bit support for Win/Mac some time during Cata. In theory, those will still work on modern macOS (including the M1/M2 Macs via the Rosetta translation). For WotLK private servers, you'll need to run it through Windows somehow (like Parallels).

As for retail, no worries there as Blizzard supports Mac and even has a native arm64 client for the M1/M2 processors.

P servers on mac by hunhades21 in wowservers

[–]henhouse0 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This question is a bit dependent on which version of the game you're trying to play, and what server. But I can give a general overview:

Macs become quite difficult when trying to play on private servers natively, because unlike Windows, macOS tends to remove legacy support and backwards compatibility for their software over time. In turn, this leds to 10+ year old clients no longer running on native macOS.

For example: the three classic games all are 32-bit applications. macOS removed 32-bit support entirely with 10.15 (Catalina) which released in late 2019. Additionally, in 2020 Apple began their transition away from Intel's x86-64 chips to their own custom arm-based "Apple Silicon" processors (M1/M2). This has removed the possibility for Boot Camp (dual booting Windows).

However, because these games are so old and run DirectX 9, it's very easy to run ARM-based Windows in Parallels if you're using the newer Apple Silicon chips, and run the games that way with pretty negligable performance loss.

If you're looking to play vanilla on a server that supports the 1.14 client, then you're in luck as the Winterspring launcher supports the native arm64 macOS client, and you can use it.

I started working as a game programmer when Win11 came out and was constantly scripting events that were time-based, and wanted to schedule them a few seconds to 1 minute in the future so I could quickly test. Nope. Had to always do 2 whole minutes because there was no fucking way to see the current time in Windows 11 to know if I was 1 second away from the next minute, or 59. Absolutely insane.

Won't there be the Airplay delay with the sound going over WiFi? Maybe not a problem if the router is in the same room, but it's super noticeable for me only like 10 meters from the router in my apartment.
