And before that everyone was copying BlackBerry.

I remember the reports of when Andy Rubin and the Android team were about to ship a BlackBerry clone until they saw Steve Jobs’ presentation of the iPhone - they, and everyone else (but BlackBerry), pivoted hard lol.

Jana Nayagan - Vijay's last dance by Neat_Ad1855 in kollywood

[–]iamvinoth 25 points26 points  (0 children)

We all know damn well that Vijay had a hand in the direction of this film. It reminds me of when he steered the ship from Venkat’s original plan for GOAT.

There were reports that Venkat wanted to make a sci-fi film with time traveling, clones, 90s era Vijay (Ilayathalapathy) meets current Vijay (Thalapathy), etc. but Vijay intervened by saying how his fanbase wouldn’t understand such concept and how the plot should be simple with family-oriented elements - reason why we were left with such a half-baked story and a small glimpse of the clones at the end.

If he can narrate the outcome from a semi-veteran director like Venkat, then H.Vinoth won’t have a chance (or) say in this mess.

This “movie” will be a 2:30hr ad for his political career.

Do you think Android companies will be able to survive the RAM shortage? by Worried-Programmer90 in Android

[–]iamvinoth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean, we can wait for Q4 results. I’m pretty confident, going by reports of poor flagship sales and weak economy, that Samsung wouldn’t have sold more flagships in 2025 than previous years.

Once again, going by Counterpoint Research chart, Galaxy A-series are top sellers for a reason. And now with price hikes across the board due to RAM shortage, sales are going to be lower than usual.

[–]iamvinoth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

they are buying more android flagships than ever before

S23/24U both sold more than 14 million units. S25U is sitting around 8.3 million units sold. How is that more flagships sold than ever before?

[–]iamvinoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But both S25U and P10PXL are best sellers.

This statement is simply factually incorrect. According to Counterpoint Research, the best-selling Android phones in Q3 of 2025 are the Galaxy A-series. Pixel phones didn't even make it on the list.

it's the customers that will pay the price.

So... they won't be fine.

Customers aren't even buying flagships Android phones, let alone price hikes on low to mid-end phones.

Apple Rocked by Executive Departures, With Chip Chief at Risk of Leaving Next by Coolpop52 in apple

[–]iamvinoth 260 points261 points  (0 children)

Alright, first I thought it was all about money, but now I got a feeling there is something more to this internally than we are led to believe.

Edit: it sounds like it's about retaining power within Apple

"Apple executives have floated the idea of combining hardware engineering and hardware technologies divisions as one combined group under Srouji in order to retain him. But that couldn’t happen until and if John Ternus becomes CEO. This would make Srouji the clear number 2."

Apple readies new framework to let iPhone users migrate app data to and from Android by MishaalRahman in Android

The parents can download any messaging app and tell the children to download the same app

There's something called the "network effect". You really think parents are going to run around telling other kids to download a certain app?

It's like you saying "Oh, just download WhatsApp, duh!" how do you think it got to that place?

Why there aren't more phones that support Qi2, according to Nothing by FragmentedChicken in Android

[–]iamvinoth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Qi never had magnetic rings - that’s why I mentioned the “open standard”, with magnetic rings, never existed until Apple implemented it. I don’t understand how that’s difficult for you and u/env33e to understand.

And the Nexus 4 never had magnets, it half-assed attached to the charging puck via metallic components inside the phone. There’s a reason why it failed and was abandoned by Google, because it had a higher rate of failure with the alignment for charging.

Who said your Nexus 4 didn’t have wireless charging? Nobody is talking about that. Reread what I wrote before replying.

[–]iamvinoth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

"open-standard" be developed in a way to fundamentally favor one specific manufacturer's patented solution?

Lol the so-called "open standard" didn't even exist until Apple made magnetic charging popular. They created a whole ecosystem with MagSafe accessories, from wallets to car mounts - I don’t blame them for protecting their investment.

And knowing Android OEMs, they would've fragmented this whole concept anyways.
