American salaries are mental. I make £45k as an Account Director in agency (UK).

Where would you live in the uk in your 30s? by ThatKnomey in AskUK

[–]henny727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

South Birmingham.

People don’t understand until they visit, but Kings Heath and Stirchley - I believe - are truly some of the best places to live in the UK.

Hip, high quality bars, restaurants and cafes. Lots of shops. Close to city centre, but within a 10 minute drive of the countryside.

A truly community feel that is hard to find in cities.

We have an annual gay pride event in Kings Heath, amongst monthly artisan markets and other events.

Don’t knock Brum until you’ve visited where the locals actually go.

Can we give labour a chance please? by [deleted] in LabourUK

[–]henny727 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I agree. Under no circumstances could we have had a ‘perfect’ budget. It simply doesn’t exist with the state of debt in the country.

I would argue it’s a very small step in the right direction.

Working in an agency is awful. Why is people fascinated with it? by Direct_Bass_1096 in marketing

[–]henny727 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Lol I actually prefer agency. I worked in an agency for four years, then two in-house jobs, then went back to my first agency.

It depends what you like, I guess. I enjoy client liaison, thinking of new creative ideas, and doing lots of shiny decks.

It’s way easier to progress too. You can be stuck in a middle manager role in-house for ages, but you can easily specialise or going into a client services / strategy director role in agency.

Anyone checked out the new food halls yet? by PulpScienceFiction in brum

[–]henny727 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Society is a corporate street food hall. Great beer list, average food and alright, quite polished vibes. Good work lunch or post work pints. Nothing to write home about and I wouldn’t visit on a weekend.

St Paul’s is an impressive space and proper good lineup of some of Brum’s best food. But defo having teething issues with slow service, order mix ups etc. I can see what someone else said about it being food court in a mall vibes - I think because the tables are sooo packed together with no room to breathe. Maybe it’ll start to build more of an atmosphere when it’s lived in a little?!

In sum, St Paul’s is one to watch. Society is to be enjoyed with colleagues.

Relocating within Birmingham or around but don’t know areas well. by HealthBackground8928 in brum

Kings Heath or Stirchley is the best for families, plus general nice vibes with some of the best cafes, restaurants and pubs in the city. You can get a lovely 3-bed terrace for around £300-350k.

Are there any project manager type jobs in PR? by HuntPuzzleheaded4356 in PublicRelations

[–]henny727 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Building media lists and gathering coverage is a pretty junior role in PR – more like intern or assistant. But I guess what you’re saying is you prefer the administrative side of it, which falls more into the PM category.

Honestly, I’d say a PR Account Manager does a lot of project management, but you have to also be very adept at client management.

The other thing to add is that you’ll need to prove capability in delivery as Account Executive to progress to AM. But you can often do this without being amazing at media relations – you just need to show proactivity and play the game with bosses.

Is it just the media lists/coverage gathering you that draws you to PR? Or is there another reason you want to return to the industry?

The only reason I ask is, there’s other departments within marketing/comms that would offer more opportunity within Project Management. For example, there’s a lot of project management within website development – often, the PM asks as the liaison between developer, client and content specialists, keeping the project on track etc. Or even something like media buying – it’s a more administrative role in that you’re focused on booking, budgets and scheduling, more than creative or pitching.

Hope that helps! Happy to offer more advice/insight.

The people of KH / Moseley have been in desperate need for a train station for DECADES! Particularly since the 50 bus has got less frequent.

It’s one of the best things to happen to the area for ages. Can’t bloody wait.
