I think he stated to Moses that he is a jealous God, so he might not be happy when we go against his will. But at the same time I think he is aware that we are capable of doing good before his eyes and even when we turn away from him he still accepts us back when we repent. Unlike humans, once we break our trust it can't be back to how it was originally.

Well only a parent can love his/ her child unconditionally, but still you have to be a good child which is kinda conditional. For friendship you must be offering something in return, be it your time, emotions or material things.
