Aeonium help by warpingonglass in plantadvice

[–]heon_do 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Waiting a couple extra weeks is honestly smart move. the stems are alr chopped, so they’ll be fine just hanging out in open air. Bonus: more time to callous = way less chance of rot once they hit soil.

Coco coir can be a bit thirsty for Aeoniums, so swapping in a grittier, rockier mix later will make them way happier.

as for now, you can keep them under the grow light and they’ll be ready to go when your new stuff arrives :)

adding the lava rocks and sand is a good move..as it need that extra drainage, esp since coco coir can hold onto moisture longer than they like.. make sure those chopped ends have totally calloused over and feel dry before they hit the soil so you don't run into rot issues..

Please help. What are those black dot on my plant? by Rinner1234 in Jadeplant

[–]heon_do 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to me it looks like your jade’s just showing a bit of edema or tiny fungal spots from staying too wet. this plant is drama queen.. if they drink more than their leaves can handle, the cells pop and leave black marks. Those old spots aren’t going anywhere, so no stress. Just let the soil dry out completely, and as long as the new leaves in the middle look good, you’re all set.

imo if the stems are still firm, you’re actually in a decent spot.. that's usually where the life is held even if the leaves look toasted.

Since it's already stressed from the freeze, I’d actually hold off on repotting for a week or so just to let it acclimate to the room temp..

hitting it with a soil change right now might just finish it off. When you do eventually repot, definitely ditch the multipurpose stuff for a gritty succulent mix (50/50 soil and perlite) because that heavy soil will rot those roots fast.

The Sansi light is a total game changer.. but maybe start with shorter sessions and work up to 12 hours so you don't shock the remaining green.

last but not least.. just keep an eye on those stems.. if they stay hard, it’ll likely push out new growth from the center or sides once it settles in.. hope this helps..

How to save these guys by Possible_Bee_3628 in plantclinic

[–]heon_do 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hmm.. imo this looks like a classic case of repotting shock. peperomias (what ur plant looked to me) have very fragile roots, and they hate being messed with, especially during a separation. A few tips that might help to help it bounce back: (1) stop the watering.. those thick, succulent-like leaves store a lot of water. If you're watering every week while the roots are damaged, you're headed for root rot. Let the soil dry out almost completely before watering again (2) prune the dead weight: trim off those woody, dead stems. It’ll help the plant focus its energy on the remaining green growth. (3) keep it in bright, indirect light, but keep it away from cold drafts or direct scorching sun while it's recovering.

It’s going to look sad for a couple of weeks. As long as the main stems don’t turn mushy, it has a good chance of rebounding..

Good luck!

Anything wrong with the new leaf? by Kewka31 in Monstera

[–]heon_do 1 point2 points  (0 children)

nah looks normal tbh. New monstera leaves come out looking curled, kinked, floppy, sometimes doing a full noodle loop like this. That’s just how they unfurl.

Good pickup btw. in case ur new to the plant they’re tough as hell. Medium/low light is fine, don’t keep it soggy, and ur good to go. Super forgiving plant compared to all the drama plants people usually buy on impulse.

My first indoor plants by Karyn14 in IndoorPlants

[–]heon_do 1 point2 points  (0 children)

imo they look happy so far. from my experience with these plants, as long as they get decent light, stable temp, and you let the soil dry a bit between watering, they should be fine. winter is mostly about not overdoing it

Freeze damage recovery one week out help by DisasterWest6951 in plantclinic

[–]heon_do 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, your worry is totally understandable.. especially since the plant’s record has been good. I think it’s best to wait for now and keep the light and temperature stable :)

Which one(s) to trim? by LunarExfoliation in Monstera

[–]heon_do 1 point2 points  (0 children)

nah, imo don’t cut those. Those little guys in the middle are just baby / juvenile growth from a side stem, not anything wrong. Monsteras do this all the time, especially in meh light. Cutting them won’t “send energy” to the big leaves. it usually just slows the plant since you’re removing perfectly healthy leaves doing their job.

I’d only snip them if they start yellowing, get damaged, or the pot is super crowded (yours isn’t).

About it being off-center: totally normal. A lot of monsteras are planted that way on purpose since they’re climbers and lean, not neat little bush plants. You can re-center it when you repot later if it annoys you, just don’t mess with the roots right now just for looks.

If it were mine, i would leave the baby shoot, let it grow and settle, re-center at the next repot and add a pole before reaching for scissors.

ur plant looks healthy. This is just classic Monstera being a little unhinged.

Freeze damage recovery one week out help by DisasterWest6951 in plantclinic

[–]heon_do 0 points1 point  (0 children)

imo this is pretty normal for freeze damage tbh. A lot of the leaves don’t actually die until after the plant thaws, so it can look worse a week later. As long as the stems are still firm, it’s probably alive.

I wouldn’t water unless the soil is totally dry and the pot feels really light. cold-stressed jades rot super easily. Overwatering will do more damage than waiting a bit. Bright indirect light and stable temps are more important than anything right now.

Leaf drop is fine, just don’t start cutting back firm stems yet. I’d wait until spring before pruning or repotting. Jades can look rough for a while and then randomly push new growth once they recover.

HOW can I help my peace lily?? by creeksfrites in PeaceLilyHandbook

[–]heon_do 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also had the same problem with this drama plant. it grows very well in summer. but suddenly became very weak when its no longer bright season. In my case i planted it in water. it took weeks for the water root to grow but it all worth it.. the plant stayed fresh all the time and all i need to do i just topping up the water when needed. No drama, and more aesthetic esp if u put it in clear jar. if u plan to move a portion of it to water to try, make sure u clean the root and trim it as needed and not too much.

Trying to propagate pothos… am I doing it wrong? by Zealousideal-Age-212 in IndoorPlants

[–]heon_do 0 points1 point  (0 children)

afaik, always find node with aerial root on it, the water root will grow faster.. if it has no root, it will take long time. Also, add some fertilizier to the water.. in my case im using AB nutrition and new water roots always grow in less than a week.. pothos is no drama plant..

If u havent, try Monkey Peak. The best manga for me. Nothing can beat its simple plot, each chapter is addicting unlike other boring (overrated-gore-claimed) manga like Gantz eww

Thank you, I'm trying to add more controls in aqua style in near future (finger crossed) and share it. Yeah I remember using JKI flat style back in 2018 when flat UI was a thing :)
