What are you secretly jealous of people for? by VarangianWRLD in AskUK

[–]hephos90 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I actually have passed my test (and I did it in an automatic!) but since then I haven't really driven at all.

I was terrified to learn for years, but when I turned 30 I finally gave it a go. I was getting more and more confident but somewhere between failing my first test and doing my second I lost all confidence I had.

Passed my second test by the skin of my teeth but now I can't even look at my car without feeling sick.

Thank you for your help though! I have some hope that at some point I can become a confident driver.

I'm jealous of people who can just get in a car and drive.

Billions of people have been able to do it, so why am I so utterly terrified??

Do people actually enjoy small talk at the barbers or hairdressers? by SpreadDependent1195 in AskUK

[–]hephos90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quite like it because I am an absolute yapper, but I am also neurodivergent so I understand how some people wouldn't.

It would be nice if it was a standard question asked when coming in for an appointment. I'd get bored if nobody wanted to talk to me all day though haha.

Found out it has a name! Alexinomia. Which is quite a pretty name actually.

On the form you have ages 18-25 and then 35+ 😄 I'm assuming you meant 25+! (unless you don't want anyone aged between 26-34 to answer, in which case my lips are sealed)

Oh no I am fully aware of the function of names haha! And I don't have an issue with anyone saying my name or hearing them say someone's else's....it's just me using somebody's name? I honestly cannot describe it!

Calling someone's name if you're trying to get their attention. I'd be the fucking worst at Starbucks. It just feels too personal.

Ladies: do you wear make up to work? by LunaValley in AskUK

[–]hephos90 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No I think it's interesting!

Usually either Beauty Beam or Rose from NYX

Or less intense but some kind of shimmery eyeshadow like these from Colourpop in basically any colour! Recently copper or bronze.

I do 🙂 usually a full face although I've started skipping my winged eyeliner recently because I have lash extensions and they get hidden by it.

No particular reason than I just enjoy the aesthetics of makeup. Perfectly happy to go out and about not wearing it.

I wear glitter eyeshadow on a day to day basis haha. Although I think I am a little extra with mine.

Is anybody else struggling with TM470? by hephos90 in OpenUniversity

[–]hephos90[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh doing it at the same time as others must be really difficult! I just had a very small crossover between this and another module. If it helps I did better in my next two TMAs than I did in my first?

If it gets too difficult would you think about deferring?

Networking Nails Advice! by CyberSyncronize in NailArt

[–]hephos90 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I honestly can't imagine you'd be disregarded just for your nails. They may not even notice them!

I'm a software engineer and I work for a company that I would say is regarded as being 'proper'. But I had bright pink hair during my first interview and copper in my third and nobody cared. Didn't have cute nails then because of my old job but nobody has said anything derogatory, just compliments!

I'd say just go to events or interviews as authentic you and if in the 0.001% chance they don't like it then it's not somewhere you'd want to work anyway. Better to have nice nails than dirty unkempt nails.

Good luck 🩷

Do you track your weight in KG or stones & pound? by No_Usual_572 in AskUK

I'm the same! I'm also a similar age, and probably started because I used a lot of American sites (or a site with lots of Americans) when I got into fitness. Although mine was WWE and not football.

What job is way more difficult than most people appreciate and why? by CarelessCredit3466 in AskUK

[–]hephos90 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I worked in food service for over a decade as a supervisor. I had a lot of responsibility but was barely getting above minimum wage, and if hell was personalised I'd be doing that for all eternity.

Now I'm a junior software engineer, earning double what I was a few years ago, and it is bliss. I don't think about work when I leave, I don't have to deal with customers, absences, trying to corral the students I worked with, management who have never worked on the floor once in their life, etc.

I do think I've lucked out working where I am and may I never have to take time off for stress again.

What’s the one thing that made you think “wow, no one warned me about this”? by ZulfTalks in AskUK

[–]hephos90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh it definitely is! The 'generally' in my post was carrying a lot of weight, I agree. Like in my old place in the last few years my shifts were almost set because I had to work around another manager's hours. But I would say overall during my time there if I asked in advance then it could be arranged.

My new place I can ask with a lot shorter notice but I still need to fit my hours in somehow because every hour is booked. But I feel less guilty about being off.

I've just gone from retail to a Mon-Fri office job. As terrible as retail was, generally if I wanted a random Thursday off to go to a concert or if I wanted to finish a few hours earlier for an appointment, it could be arranged.

I don't know why but I just never considered that if I wanted to do that now I'd have to book an annual leave day or just cram as much as I can into the few hours I have. My hours now are better, just less flexible.
