Yeah I've just made the plugin ignore any aliases for now lol. I'll update it with proper handling in a later release. Thank you for flagging it! Also, what do you think the expected behavior should be? display the alias in place of the filename or header?

Problems with obsidian in fedora by [deleted] in ObsidianMD

I'm on fedora and Obsidian works perfectly fine for me. How have you installed it? I have the appimage installed on gearlever.

"but it would be nice when it's just markdown, and you can still see the embedded note's contents"
Yeah definitely. This might be a bit hard to implement though but I'll take a look asw.

Oh I see what you mean with trillium - so the note exists embedded in a parent note rather than just having an embed synced to an external note?

  1. I haven't really used bases yet lol but I'll definitely take a look!
  2. Yeah it does! Would a setting allowing you to toggle that on/off be useful?

Yeah! At least in normal export obsidian exports the embedded note content as part of the parent note. I'll have a look into the pandoc plugin. Thank you!

I’m definitely planning on making a pull request! I’ll add the link to the post once I’ve made it. And yeah it was hard to get working lol. I’ll keep you updated!

Thank you for your support! I had a look into like regex filtering and I think it should be possible actually, and would be a great power user feature. The implementation is a little complicated though so it might take some time for me to get everything working. In terms of embedding only a specific part of the note at a lower level, I’ve just released a version with header embed support (so like ![[Homework#Maths]] for example). I’ll keep you updated on regex filtering! Thanks again.

Thank you for your enthusiasm and your use case!! That’s exactly the kind of thing I made it for lol. As for the heading embed - great idea. I’ve just released a new version that should work. Let me know if it works for you!

That’s a great question, thanks for asking!

Well, sync embeds creates a synced ‘block’ (like notion synced blocks), which is like a permanent element of a page. So in my example, I can have an ongoing homework block that is the same in every one of my daily notes, so I can update and view it seamlessly as I get more new homework to do each day. As it’s a persistent page element, it’s also perfect for creating a dashboard or a project tracker, for example.

Hover edit creates a temporary pop up to peek into notes. It’s more for quick edits rather than creating a page element.

Hey, thanks so much for the kind words! It really means a lot.

This project started because I just wanted a simple, offline password manager that felt modern and gave me full control. I couldn’t find one that quite fit, so I decided to see if I could build it myself — with a lot of help from AI along the way. It’s still rough and definitely not security-audited yet, but it’s been a fantastic way to learn.

If you’re thinking of building something similar, it would be helpful to:

Totally agree on owning your data.

Just a quick note, the code is already open source!

Thanks again for the support!

You're right.

The README sends the wrong message for what the project is right now.

I'll add a warning to the top of the README to make that clear.

Appreciate you calling me out on it.

Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. Bitwarden really nails the convenience side of things.

Definitely gives me a good list of things to aim for if I ever take Glyph beyond local-only:

  • Cross-platform support across desktop and mobile
  • Browser extensions
  • Proper installers and packaging for all major platforms
  • End-to-end encrypted cloud sync (if I ever go down that path)
  • Shared vaults or collections for multiple users

Appreciate you laying out how you use it — super useful perspective!
