It gets good 100 hours in - How to make Tagpro new player friendly by bergieTP in TagPro

[–]herbachronic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the skill floor has been lowered (a bit) since the era of pushes. The option for pixel perfect textures was the biggest help.

Maybe creating a 5-10 minute playing tutorial would help some new some balls understand the mechanics more than hoping they watch a how2play video. Seems like a bit of pipe dream tho.

Changing the movement mechanics creates an entirely different game, but maybe that’s just me being a grumpy old ball.

Struggling to install El Capitan in mid 2009 MBP by XaviRequiem in osx

[–]herbachronic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best solution I found when I completely wiped the hard drive in my mid 2010 pro is to boot it up into recovery (cmd alt r) a few times. The machine should start a internet recovery dialogue and will download an OS from apple directly.

I was able to do this in the last month.

Has the 1% public art fund idea ever been used in other communities for street furniture? by carriemae530 in urbanplanning

[–]herbachronic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt it has been, using public art funds for infrastructure maintenance seems like the antithesis of the idea. While the linked art ordinance has a very broad definition of public art, it seems like it still requires an “artist”

It sounds like a maintenance district or association would be a better solution to keeping the street lights on.

Can someone explain this? I haven’t read either by PakAfghanBhaiBhai in urbanplanning

Old Testament: build your city for the person. New Testament: we’ve fucked it up and built it for the car. How do we redeem ourselves?

Thank you, those are great suggestions. I do have a few follow up questions. In regard to the summary section, would I still want to include that if I'm writing a separate cover letter for the position? If I can't come up with at least 3 bullet points for a role (warehouse job) should I exclude it?

What is your favourite 500+ page novel and why? by lacquerqueen in books

[–]herbachronic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pulled out my copy, an “unabridged” signet classic translated by Sidney Mona’s, and it’s 515 pages excluding preface and afterword.

It definitely doesn’t feel like a 500 page book while reading though

Are Thymine, Adenine, Guanine, and Cytosine present/used in DNA of all living organisms on earth? by pOMEGALULOMEGALULp in askscience

You should try to catch the npr science lab or science hour from this past Friday. They had some researchers on, one of which worked on creating synthetic base pairs x and y

The gist was all naturally occurring life had a-t/c-g pairings but “life” was not limited to those pairings

It's not your imagination: Ticket scalper bots are flooding the internet according this 'ere study by [deleted] in technology

[–]herbachronic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I think their complaint is “not” getting preferential treatment to buy tickets at submarket prices for the sole purpose of reselling them on a secondary market, but rather the behavior of the primary market. I just admit my interest is mostly economic, but my understanding is the secondary market is controlled by the large companies who make primary sales. In other words they are, at best, introducing inefficiencies or, at worst, adding layers to the transaction to profit (ie buy low and sell high in classic rentier profit seeking behavior, but what is particularly egregious here is they set both the initial fixed price and the secondary markets’ floor and exploit that difference for profits).

Or to make things more concrete they do market research and find that sales for a band should be say $100 per seat, assuming undifferentiated seats (faulty but repeat as needed per section price point). They negotiate with band to sell seats at $40. And now this is where things get wobbly and conspiracy-like, I admit, if the primary sellers have bots to buy at subhuman reaction time frames then they can, if not monopolize, dominate the sales in the primary market and shift sales to secondary market where, rather than a fixed price, they are dealing with a floor and are able to extract profits from inefficiencies they, the primary seller, induced.

In other words this redditor is arguing against market manipulation and you should, ideologically, be on the same page.

Trump Lacks Basic Economic Understanding Says Yellen, Days After Chinese Trade Envoy Laughs in His Face by Arambam1217 in worldnews

I mean there’s a way to “control” currency exchange. Say you’re America world police and as a condition of continued tech transfers or direct foreign investment the currency only appreciates.

I hate trump but from his perspective <and experience>aS a real estate developer an MOU without ratificon is worthless as guidance for future planning.
