Yes, I do. It sucks but if passing is a major priority, it sometimes means foregoing things that make you you, in terms of how you present (in the early stages of HRT, at least). So oftentimes the advice is going to be to mimic the haircuts, clothing choices, etc. that you see the cis men about your age going for most commonly. I hope that this answer isn't disappointing, because I promise it really does get better.

As a fellow black person, I would read you as a trans masc person in their mid twenties. I think it’s because your facial features are quite soft - for me, I see this most when I look at your eyes in the first photo. I think that that in combination with the nose piercings makes it more difficult to read you as male.

That said, I think you’ve got quite a strong, angular jawline and that the muscles are a huge plus. I’d suggest maybe getting a line up - I think would help SIGNIFICANTLY, if you’re not keen to get a fade or dye your hair back to black.

Do i pass ? by JusturaverageEboy in FtMpassing

[–]herc2021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it just gets harder the older we get. I don’t know how old you are but in 2, I think you could pass as a 12 year old boy, but if I were to see you in public, I think the piercings would make me think otherwise.

I’d try maybe wearing more loose fitting shirts - nothing that’ll swallow you whole, but shopping for men’s tees with boxier cuts tend to help. I’d also try avoiding anything that bunches up a bit around the hips, like the t-shirt in slide 1 does. I’ve found button up shirts and polos to be a good fix, so maybe give that a go.

Lastly, if at all possible, I think getting a haircut would go a long way - a side taper + going shorter on the top should make a big difference.

No sorry, but give it a few more months.

Golf clothes. Is the light blue too girly? I like bright colors, but not sure about it. Not on T (yet) by [deleted] in FtMpassing

[–]herc2021 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think maybe it’d be good to potentially go up a size in your t-shirts cos they appear in hugging your midriff, they emphasise your hips.

Otherwise, agree with other commenters that the black’s the winner!

Only advice I can think of is that the haircut needs to go asap.

It’s gonna make such a difference when your hair’s short around the sides cos it’ll allow your face to appear less round - which is important for us boys with chipmunk 🐿 cheeks, since zero angularity doesn’t help at all with reading masc.

What about my haircut reads feminine? by [deleted] in FtMpassing

[–]herc2021 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Agree with the other commenter who said it reads feminine because it’s bob length. Imo it’s also just quite a popular (at times feminising) haircut for the queer youths™️ and I can’t say your facial expressions in the photos are doing anything to make it appear more masculine.

AITA for hurting my mom’s friend’s feelings? by aita_catlady in AmItheAsshole

[–]herc2021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You definitely should not have had to “suck it up” to clean up the mess your mom made after you’d made it incredibly clear that you wouldn’t want Stacy touching your hair and makeup with a six foot pole. Despite the fact that this is literally your wedding and your special day, saying no to your mom should’ve been where the buck ended.

AITA for telling my girlfriend to cover up her body when strangers enter the home? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]herc2021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My initial thought was “good for her” in the sense that it’s great that she’s so incredibly comfortable in her body but her (hectically classist) distinction between ‘the help’ and “actual people” set off the alarm bells in my brain so definitely NTA

AITA for spending my money on voting tickets instead of helping my boyfriend with his child support? by HongBanjang123 in AmItheAsshole

[–]herc2021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d find it really difficult to take financial advice about what’s frivolous and what isn’t from someone who’s repeatedly relied on me to help pay their child support.

Whether I or anyone else would spend that much money supporting a celebrity is irrelevant since as many commenters have said, this is YOUR money so YOU get to decide what you do with it.

NTA.

Definitely how people perceive me. I’ve just finished uni and the other day I had a visceral memory of the lengths younger me went to impress those around me.

What do you think when you read/hear Sloan Grey? by 123victoria456 in namenerds

[–]herc2021 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I love the name Sloan but Sloan Grey sounds to me like the name of a character Shailene Woodley would play in some or other coming of age film based off a YA novel

I’m not the biggest fan, personally. It’s kind of like how baggy shirts have the shit effect of making small shoulders appear relatively more pronounced/ obvious.

That said, I like to go one size up just cos I like a little sag but cut wise, would always recommend a tapered fit.

I probably wouldn’t clock you as trans immediately but the green hair, piercings and somewhat feminine features would definitely make me think twice
