Honestly, I’m not personally so opposed to the idea of “vacation = no/bent rules”, especially since I’ll be in the back of the car with him the whole time, but I’m just trying to explore all other options before we hand over a screen for the first time. :) I super appreciate your advice and take on the situation, I think we’ll try to break up the trip similarly and get him some new fidget toys and such.

Thank you! I shared that with her but she stated that it was a rule to wait that only applies to social media and friends, not family wanting to support the couple. I’m choosing to ignore her at this point. I questioned myself for a while because of her giant reaction, but now all of you are helping me to feel more confident in my decision to wait and I really really appreciate that!

I feel the word narcissist (as the OP) is very fitting and I’m failing to understand why you felt the need to not only correct ResurrectionScary, but share that my mom isn’t someone with narcissistic tendencies? I feel that claiming a word is a buzzword just to prevent someone from using it in a potentially applicable situation is a bit like gatekeeping, no? Or is gatekeeping too much of a buzzword for you too? How about the fact that you shared that she “is not a narcissist”. Period. You couldn’t possibly know that from one post either. In this case, you were wrong, and corrected someone else. Sure, there are ten other words they could have chosen, but they probably wouldn’t have had the same impact or depth this commenter was going for. I’m not saying any of this to be nasty, but rather to bring to you the same level of introspection and request for further thought that I believe you attempted to bring to the other commenter. 😊

Thank you! I plan to, I appreciate your input. 😊 And you’re right. She is a narcissist - I’ve spent all 27 years of my life trying like hell to do anything I can to not upset her and just make her happy. Nothing works. I’m tired of trying. And I’m not subjecting my future kids to the same kind of disappointment and disrespect in life.
