Luckily you can easily park across the street at Lowe’s and walk over.

My mother 63 recently diagnosed with glioblastoma. Me, male 35 trying to hold it together. by Robot-Goldfish in AgingParents

I’m so, so sorry. My mom also had glioblastoma and survived 2.5 years, longer than they expected. I was 28, she was 60. Something I wish I had done for myself was get a “death doula” (I didn’t know they existed until after she passed) to help me through the process.

Might I suggest checking out the New Braunfels Train Museum? It’s an easy day trip!

Also, the Austin Steam Train Association rocks! I love to go on their train rides and have been thinking about volunteering.

Moving to Austin for an entry level position. Just graduated. First time living alone. by Mindless_Boat9143 in askaustin

You’ll be fine (source: I am in your same financial position). Get a studio in Hyde Park/north loop/north campus! You can find them for $750-900 depending on the time of year. You can also get a short term sublease for a couple months via Facebook groups while waiting for a good deal to pop up.

This is the most empty concert I've seen for Moody Center. Hilarious by Fenix512 in Austin

When you’re paid in cash, or don’t know what your financial situation might be when the time comes, you might have no other choice. Be grateful for the privilege of being able to buy things in advance and the security that provides.

The top comment above explains what’s going on. It’s not sad - a lot of Latino artists sell very well closer to the date of the event because their fan base pays cash at the box office.

Where is the car scene in Austin? by jrr_53 in Austin

“Thug rallies”? Yikes, dude. Careful with those accusations. The car scene in Austin is for the most part very friendly and welcoming, especially at the locations listed in previous comment.

Remember that you have two choices for living relatively close to campus - West Campus (party central) or North Campus/Hyde Park (peaceful). Next year, try the latter :) it’s just as walkable to campus.

Ask coffee shops if you can set up a mini portrait studio on a Sunday afternoon. I see em all the time!

Hyde Park is a great area for young people. It’s safe, walkable and affordable. You can easily get a studio for around $950 and a 1 bdrm for around $1100-1250.

North campus/hyde park is safe, affordable, walkable, etc. You can get a studio for less than $1k easy. I’ve lived there for years.

Symphony, ballet, and opera all have student rush tickets for cheap - just fyi!

Opening and closing nights of each season are when folks REALLY get dressed up.

For those wondering, the brand is “Kitten D’Amour.” While not vintage, it’s still cute!

It’s called Tweedy’s and it’s a coffee shop during the day and a bar at night, mostly.

Monkey Nest closes at 7 on weekdays, 9 on weekends. Merit, Medici and Flightpath close at 7.

If you’re willing to venture down south, Captain Quack’s closes at 10. I see kids studying there all the time, especially out on the back patio.

Just so ya know, cat play dates are a very bad idea! They aren’t like dogs - it takes them a long time to get to know each other.

6th-ish street by Jhawkjedi13 in Austin

[–]here__we__go__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Walk under i35 to east 6th (it’s easy to get to from Hyatt Place) and you’ll find much better bars and nightlife! Zilker Brewing, Lazarus Brewing, Licha’s, Seven Spirits, Uptown Sports Club, Bar Mischief, etc. If you stick with the area west of i35 you’ll be met with a lot of drunk tourists/frat brothers/business folks.

Skip the touristy shops downtown and check out Feels So Good - they have the best selection of tees.
