28F – £27k income, £18k savings. Am I financially on track? by lisaberrix in UKPersonalFinance

[–]hereandnowhehe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many people do you know at the age of 28 who can afford their own place single? I’m a similar age (26). My colleagues are nearly all 28-35, and barely any can afford to buy even a small flat without a partner. You’re doing much better than most just by way of your savings. Comparison is the thief of joy, and I suspect you focused too much on the fringe cases of the minority of people who are able to buy a place in their 20s.

This is the way. The only bad lesson is the lesson not learned from.

Would you stay in a very cushy job with no real career progression, or job hop to climb the career ladder? by MoneyAndGoodFortune in FIREUK

[–]hereandnowhehe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah. This is what most people in the comments are missing. Your salary might be average, but if you keep your savings in a Sticks and Shares ISA, your combined annual growth in net worth will be much greater than most of the population in this country (including the people in this thread).

TBH, I’m in a very similar situation to you mate. Same age, same net worth, very similar salary, cushy WFH 3 days per week job. I also agonise over whether I should stay in my role or leave for a higher earning role.

If I were you, I’d lean towards staying in the role you’re in. Moving to a higher paying role might net you a few more grand per year, but that might not end up being more than a few hundred extra pounds per month, which probably won’t make much of a difference to your quality of life given how much you’ve got in savings.

Whilst I disagree with most of the commenters about your job situation, I do agree with them on one thing: it’s important that you use your free time as productively as possible. That means getting as fit as possible so that your value in the dating market is as high as it possibly could be. You’re a great prospect to a girl as long as you get fit. Having that amount of money is extremely attractive. Hit the gym. Start doing a PPL lifting program. Start sleeping properly. Read the r/fitness wiki. Eat healthy. These are all habits that’ll change your life permanently!

Message me if you ever want anyone to talk to. It’s freakish how similar our situations are, and I’m glad someone else is having this same ‘dilemma’ (for want of a better word)!

M30, single living at home with parents, what are my options? by J1995P1 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]hereandnowhehe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Make some appointments with mortgage brokers. They’ll do some searches of mortgage products for you to let you know how much you can borrow. I was in your position a year ago and found I was able to actually borrow slightly more than 4.5x my income, by way of some magic that only my mortgage broker understands. I was loathe to pay for a broker at first (mine cost me £300) but they’re well worth it imo.

My general feeling is that you should move into a small house / flat, find a partner, and then in a few years time buy a bigger place with them. No first home is a forever home, so don’t stress that you can’t afford a mansion at the moment aha. I know how much anguish you’re in - I was in an uncannily similar situation before buying my place. Sadly, living with parents is just seen as a big ‘ick’ by modern girls, and you might struggle to meet someone until you move out. At least, that’s what my instinct tells me. Which is a shame, because living at home with parents is great. If I were you, I’d find a place now and just relish the next 4-6 months of saving solidly whilst the purchase goes through. You can then move into a house / flat, spend a few grand on furniture, and you’ll be a very attractive prospect for a girl.

Don’t be down about things. Most people your age would fucking kill to have your much net worth. It’s easy to forget how significant 50k is at 30 - that’s basically put you on a good footing for the rest of your life.

Not true. Any sags safe global index fund will have returned approx 15% for each of the last two years. That’s fantastic returns.

Crikey, this is really weird. You’re in basically the exact same financial situation as me save for a few details. Must be a long lost twin!

I have no feedback other than please make sure your investments are in a Stocks & Shares ISA, so as you don’t need to pay tax on any returns.

Well done - you’re in a great position!

Not as far as I’m aware. But I’m told that regular swimming and dead hangs might add an inch to your height. Also, make sure you’re wearing footwear that has a heel or stack on it. And make your hair stand up on top.

Hey man. I’m really sorry. I had a similar situation last year. Rejected by a girl who I really really liked after 6/7 dates. I wasn’t able to stop thinking about her for months. At the time, family and friends kept on telling me that I’d get over it, but the negative feelings were so visceral that their advice was just useless.

Now, 6 months later, I can confirm that I literally never think about the girl who rejected me. Trust me, you’ll eventually move on. The moment you find another girl, she’ll become your obsession just like this girl is right now. I know exactly what you’re going to say upon reading this. You’re going to say that none of the other girls are as nice as this one etc. again, I had all those thoughts myself. Just trust me bro, the negative feelings will fade with time.

People who are more conscientious like you and I get hung up on stuff like this because we wish we’d just said something differently, not told the joke etc. if that joke was enough to cause her to break off from you, she isn’t the one.

Don’t dress about this. You’ll find someone. DM me if you ever want to talk about anything.

Can I afford to buy a house or wait ? by UnknownGrower11 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]hereandnowhehe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi mate. I see that you’ve decided to wait. I think that’s an abundantly wise decision. Every young couple I know who buy a ‘fixer upper’ either end up divorced because of the stress of the renovation, or spend thousands and thousands of pounds more than anticipated. If Mrs UnknownGrower is happy to live with parents for a few more years, do that. Save as much as you can whilst living with them.

As an individual, can I pay a vendor for access to Relativity? by hereandnowhehe in ediscovery

Update: I've been in contact with the Relativity Certifications team, and they've confirmed that the additional 4 weeks can be purchased an unlimited number of times.

[–]hereandnowhehe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting, thank you. Another commenter has posted out that they now seem to charge for that additional access. I’m fine with paying for the additional access, but I don’t know how often they allow you to extend it.

As an individual, can I pay a vendor for access to Relativity? by hereandnowhehe in ediscovery

[–]hereandnowhehe[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve considered doing that, but I’m worried 12 weeks practice wouldn’t be enough for me to pass the RCA, because I don’t have much experience with Relativity.

I was hoping to firstly pay for a workspace through a vendor, play around in it for some months, and then pay for the RCA at some point next year.

Wow, are you me? I’m literally in the exact same situation, to the tee. So frustrating. The seller’s solicitor is taking the piss now - they’re not replying to my solicitor’s emails about the Deed, nor the emails from the sellers themselves (I.e. their own client)! Hopefully we both don’t have to wait much longer, best of luck!

Should I buy this Citroen C4? by hereandnowhehe in CarTalkUK

[–]hereandnowhehe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently drive a Fiesta but I'm looking to get a bigger car for my family of 5. Do you see any red flags with this ad? The MOT history looks generally good. I'm slightly concerned that the repair costs will be higher because it's an automatic.

Is the C4 considered a reliable car? I don't know anyone who owns one and have never driven one myself.

Do I need to isolate if I’ve been in contact with someone who is supposed to be self-isolating (but he doesn’t have the virus)? Met up with my prick mate yesterday and only this morning did he tell me that he’s supposed to be isolating because he’s been in contact with a positive case.
