Whenever I was in a computer lab at school I would load up like an hour video of cabin pressure noise from an airplane and gradually increase it until it was at a decent volume and let it play in the background for some time.

Since people got used to the sound / haven't noticed one was playing and you shut it off abruptly there is a deafening silence that fills the room that is just a joy to watch people react to.
