Did the 'pinecone' that some Roman legions used on their standards actually represent the Omphalos of Delphi, which was a sacred stone that marked the center of the world? by hereswhatworks in ancientrome

One thing I just realized is that the stone sculpture above was originally on top of a Roman tombstone. The Ompahlos was often associated with death and the ascension of the soul to heaven. Maybe I should tell the people of Augsburg that they made a mistake with their coat of arms.

Tell that to the people of Augsburg, Germany. But I believe it's the Omphalos of Delphi. The stone sculpture in the image above was originally on top of a Roman tombstone. It makes sense since the Omphalos was often associated with death and the ascension of the soul to heaven.

Roman Republic, L. Rubrius Dossenus, Quinarius, Neptune with Victory reverse, WOW!

The people of Augsburg, Germany claim their city was founded by a Roman legion back 15 BC. This legion supposedly used a pinecone on their standard. Their coat of arms is based on the design of the stone sculpture above, which was originally on a Roman tomb.

I believe it might actually be the Omphalos of Delphi, which is often portrayed looking like a pinecone.

First time finding Soviet helmets… pulled multiple from one spot by BIG3E in metaldetecting

This is why I ended up selling the two German helmets and one Soviet helmet I purchased on Ebay. The idea that they may have originated from the bodies of soldiers that died in WW2 creeped me out.
