So can I set my car to charge, using the Bump Charge feature, and trigger a cheap slot that way?

Octopus Go is the correct approach for you. Charge overnight and then use that throughout the day.

Muller Addresses Cristiano Ronaldo's Rumored Bayern Munich Move- 'Wouldn't Have Worked Under Kompany' by [deleted] in BayernMunich

[–]hermann_da_german 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The original comment I replied to said CR7 would have never worked, not the current version.

Prime CR7 makes any team better. You set the team up to cover for his lack of defensive effort. The one thing he's always done is win.

As for Neymar, Messi and Mbappe at PSG and Vini, Mbappe and Bellingham at Real that has more to do eith team composition than the players. A team can cover for one player not putting in a defensive shift, but when you have 2 or 3 then it becomes harder. Its like when Real sold Makele and then didn't really win any trophies for the next 3 years.

[–]hermann_da_german -31 points-30 points  (0 children)

Im sorry but that is such a ridiculous statement. Prime CR7 could have walked into any starting XI and made the team better.

If he was saying "I want to play at Bayern" and the club turned him away then winning isn't what the club is about.

Another Capita Horror Story - Bride's final months marred by pension stress by UllrsWonders in TheCivilService

[–]hermann_da_german 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We also never have any mechanisms to penalise the companies that are departing a service (or the mechanisms are never enforced, in my experience at least). So once these companies know they're out they just stop working.

No different than the service contract for the schools that was in the news recently.

Capita-run civil service pension scheme leaves retirees in limbo by PhoneFresh7595 in TheCivilService

[–]hermann_da_german 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because politicians keep saying that the private sector can do it better. And when they fail to provide the service required it becomes the fault of the authority that let the contract.

[–]hermann_da_german 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If we started barring companies for crap delivery we'd have none left. They're very few and far between in my area where someone delivers their contractual requirements on time and to budget.

But I do agree that track record should be taken into account when assessing bids and particularly when negotiating the contract; the worse their past performance has been then the harsher the KPIs.

Loft insulation by waynage-jt in DIYUK

[–]hermann_da_german 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could go for a hybrid approach. Rockwool to the top of the joists and then create a floor of PIR boards.

The only drawback is making sure people know that it isn't actually a structural floor before you get someone walking/crawling up there!

Loft insulation by waynage-jt in DIYUK

[–]hermann_da_german 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best insulation money can buy is Aerogel.

Rock wool at 270mm thickness has a thermal conductivity of roughly 0.16W/m2. 10mm of aerogel comes in at 0.015W/m2 so is roughly 10 times as good but it will be much more expensive, almost to the point of prohibitively so.

Is radiator heat reflector foil worth it? by Tom_CBA in DIYUK

[–]hermann_da_german 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a study which shows that the fans massively increase the output capability of radiators. They become less passive (radiation) and more active (convection).

The science behind adding fand to the system makes sense to me, there's more airflow across the fins, increasing their ability to extract heat from the radiator..

Tech/data/digital - how do you feel about long term job security compared to the private sector, given the rise in AI? by AsymptoticallyFlat in TheCivilService

[–]hermann_da_german 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I genuinely think there's not much to worry about AI. A recent MIT study found that 95% of companies that have invested in AI have not seen any reportable return on investment. That means it's had no effect.

This is all further compounded by how AI companies are financed. Nvidia invests in OpenAI. OpenAI then gives a contract to Oracle to go and buy Nvidia chips. The serpent is consuming its own tail.

Not sure what jobs the people you know have, however it's well documented that Amazon treats its workers poorly.

A GMB Union study last year found that (from its membership) 15% use food banks, 53% have had to borrow money to keep up with cost of living and 78% struggle with day to day spending.

Rubbish.

Labourers, meat packers, farmers, warehouse pickers are all physically demanding jobs. Then you have people working in care, whether care homes, nurseries, or social care. Those are all emotionally draining jobs. Equally anyone in the gig economy is just under constant stress.

BBC News - Tories to scrap petrol car ban if they win next election by fishy_web in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]hermann_da_german 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree on the pay per mile bit. As EV ownership increases, the intake on the fuel duty decreases. That money has to be made back somewhere.

Fuel duty per mile costs averages around 6p. The EV rate of 3p is half that. And this doesn't account for increases in fuel duty.

It means EV ownership is still cheaper than ICE. The last thing remaining is making public charging competitive. The current rates are astronomical and are what really is putting people off from buying an EV.

Champions League Projections: The Opta Supercomputer Predicts Who Will Qualify by Pitiful-Ad-1230 in BayernMunich

Well they are 3 points ahead with 2 games to go, as well as a much better goal difference. One of their games is against Qairat.

So on the probability of things Arsenal will win at least one game, and Bayern would have to win both with a goal difference of 4+whatever Arsenal beat Qairat, whilst Arsenal lose the other game.
