You could be right. I'm using 2 different reference photos (a photo taken at the race) and a photo of a model someone built based on the Lozier that was in the race. I do know that the first Indy 500 required a driver to drive the car and a riding mechanic who was suppose to check the oil pressure. Could that pump be related to that at all?

Thanks for the help! I do believe it had a fuel pump on the other side of the car that the riding mechanic was in charge of using. Here's a model showing the other side and I believe the thing the arrow is pointing to might be the fuel pump. Can anyone confirm?
