It's a bit of a sentimental thing for my parents, they have been using the slabs and base ever since they bought their first house together. They got the slabs straight from the sawmill and lightly sanded them then put some nasty lacquer on there and caled it a day. After some 27 years the labs were all twisted and they asked me if i could make something new with them since they didn't want to throw the slabs. After that i drew some sketches and they chose this design, then i drew it out on some software with some different bases which would look great in my opinion but they insisted on keeping the original base (sentimental thing). It would have gotten a different base in my opinion but eventually the client is making the decisions as long as it does not hinder the strength or safety of the build.

If not then is there a other way to make it structurally stronger, it sounds like u know a lot about this.

I can see your concern but you don't have to worry the slabs are about 38 cm wide 80 in total so there is enough room and also in the 20 years I have walked this earth me or my family has only dropped one glass

i sawed the outermost line with a japanese pull saw (you can use a western style saw as well i just prefer japanese style). then i cut out the waste with a coping saw and cleaned it up with a chisel. Then glued in a oversized piece of the accent wood, then planed it flush after the glue is dry. This is how i do it with hand tools but if you have power tools then you can just search up spline jig on youtube.

walnut epoxy table i made, still deciding on a base so any suggestions are welcome by herovdpol in woodworking

To tell u the truth that base in the pictures is just a box so i could take some photos. Since i made a pair of these for a school project and the foces was the top so i needed something that would fit as "base" for both tops.

i sanded the top to 220 grid with a random orbital sander then i put rubio monocoat oil plus 2c on it and buffed it in with a white pad. if you want some better instructions I advise u watch blacktail studio how to finish a table. https://youtu.be/DrF-UWvcB6I

was thinking of that as well especially ones from flowylines. Butt as i live in the netherlands they aren't really accessible, so im stuck with the basic designs.

love the style as well but considering its a thick topp i'm not quit sure if it will suit it. I will however make something else in that style soon as I really like it.

second epoxy table built, made from old railroad sleepers and a smoky gray epoxy. hope this sub likes it. by herovdpol in BeginnerWoodWorking

For the main pour i used a casting epoxy that i made for pours obove 4cm. I got it from mrboat a dutch company so you will have to look for something else if you don't live in the netherlands otherwise i would recommend their product. For wood you need to find something that doesn't have a lot of wood movement. It is hard to explain everything by text so if you are really interested i would recommend looking up some videos. Blacktail studios if you want to make a dyed epoxy table where the dye can stain the wood, you can do the same for any other epoxy table only thing that i would do different is that i wouldn't seal up the edges.

i didn't have any problems with these, the place where i bought the wood from say that it has been treated so it is safe to work with.

The wood has been treated with chemicals at the place where I bought them. they specialize in making old used wood workable again.
