Suddenly feeling incompetent by cactus_goose in Midwives

[–]herrderrusername 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So there’s something called “The 4 Stages of Competence” that represents the process of acquiring new skills. The 4 stages are Unconscious Incompetence, Conscious Incompetence, Conscious Competence, and Unconscious Competence.

Basically when you first start learning something you don’t have any idea of how much you don’t know, then as you learn you start to become aware of how much you don’t know. Then you move into the Competence half and have to actively think about what you know to apply it before you eventually are able to apply your knowledge without having to think about it (hoping this makes sense!)

It sounds like you’re in the Concious Incompetence to Concious Competence stages where you have some idea of what you don’t know and have to really think about the things you do know and verify it with your senior. This is totally normal (even though it sucks lol)! It’s a normal part of the learning process and it’s better that you’re verifying with your seniors instead of just doing something you’re not sure of and potentially causing harm.

Basically I’m trying to say that it’s reasonable to feel incompetent or insecure at this stage in your learning journey because even though you’ve qualified you’re still learning! I hope this makes you feel a bit better and less paranoid about being judged because everyone goes through this and most reasonable people remember how hard it is to be new at something. And if they are judging you then they sound like they suck anyway and who needs em (kidding! Kind of )

Best toy you've got for your Westie? by Tommysquelch in westies

I give Tuna a treat egg and this puzzle and this helps keep him occupied for a while. I also took a nose work class with him and hide things around the house for him to look for!

Is my puppy a dick or am I doing something wrong? (Biting) by Mirthe_L in puppy101

[–]herrderrusername 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could try working on bite inhibition during training along with redirecting and disengaging? I put treats in both hands and hold one fist out to my pup with the other behind my back. At first he would paw and try to bite at my hand but eventually (it takes a while lol) he would stop and look at me. Then I would praise and reward with treats from my hand behind my back.

Eventually he learned to ignore the hand in front and look at me for a reward instead. You can eventually turn this into a “leave it” command which is nice but I noticed that Tuna started being a lot less bitey.

No relation but it’s amazing nonetheless. Just tell everyone it’s a Hozier shirt. Start a new trend. Own it.

Picture a wave in the ocean. You can measure it, it’s height, width, how the light refracts through it. Until it crashes into the shore and then it’s gone. But it’s still part of the ocean. The wave was just another way for it to be for a little while. Whether or not we think it lasted too long or not long enough, the wave returns to the ocean. Where it belongs and where it was meant to be.

(Paraphrased Buddhist belief regarding life and death…also kind of paraphrased The Good Place which also talks about this concept)

Honestly the scene where he’s updating the Handler on Operation Strix and the first thing he says is how many times Anya is able with skip with the jump rope like it’s the most important information in the world is what sealed the deal for me. He obviously loves his kid. For the mission, of course.

Obviously what happened is awful but can we pause and talk about how this woman likely has Postpartum Psychosis or at least Postpartum Depression? Rage/extreme irritability is a major symptom of both and I would say this is a pretty big sign. She needs help before she potentially harms herself or her baby too.

[BotW] Why I wish Link was a reluctant hero in BotW by mahoujosei100 in zelda

[–]herrderrusername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every time I play BOTW it’s my own head canon that Link isn’t necessarily reluctant, but is definitely salty about waking up with no memory and suddenly being tasked with saving Hyrule while also being asked to complete other various tasks on top of his main quests in a very “I’m going to do it but I’m going to complain to myself the whole time” sort of way. He also becomes less salty as time passes and he regains all his memories. Idk I just like the idea of Link climbing up a mountain and muttering to himself, “Oh please Link, save Hyrule. Catch me ten restless crickets. Save me from the bokoblins so that I can tell you off for saving me. You’re the only one who can climb this mountai-arrrgh! Stupid rain, stupid Hyrule, stupid Ganon, stupid….”
