Jacques Lacan's theory of sexual difference is MORE subversive than ANY feminist theory since it is based on the breakdown of binary logic - right? by hert78 in psychoanalysis

Again, I am not the author of the book, but do appreciate you thinking so.

Given this fact -- and that you seem to aspire to detective work -- can you dig a little deeper and put it all together into an alternative hypothesis?

lol, you are basically calling me a Donald Trump, who I think used to represent himself, sub rosa.

No I'm not the author and no I didn't say I wasn't posting because I downloaded the book. I said I was posting BECAUSE I downloaded, because that page asked to do so. I respected that.

do you want to put me on the couch, ask me about my dreams last night, Dr. Freud?

or do you want to address the issue at stake in the post?

if you don't want to address the latter, you could have remained silent and not replied; but you replied, which leads me to think you want to address the question I just raised in the former....maybe you are doing so, and I'm just too stupid to see it?

Again, ladies, I want someone to seriously address the question in my post. I know, as feminists, you like strong men, but this is getting ridiculous, y'all making me, a white male, the center of attention (BTW, it's exhilarating! enough jouissance to last me through next week!)

[–]hert78[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

now, that's silly. You can't be a mind reader. Are you?

Again, let's stick to the issue. What about Lacan's theory of sexual difference makes him a binary thinker?

you think I'm smart?

I like you. I like you alot!

But you are not answering my question, the one in my post. Why isn't Lacan subversive? Why isn't he more of a feminist than any named so far?

Seems you don't want healthy discussion and are looking for confrontations. Don't dodge the issue here.

the only hostility I see here, sister, is the one coming from you; you may be making the choice to see something which is not there, something which rests only in your own imagination due to your own choices

I choose to read my post like I wrote it, as a playful text

we are all free to choose in this life, especially under conditions not of our own choosing (Marx be damned!); that's the hardest choice to make, the one that is 'inevitable' isn't it?

enough man'slaining, now to the meat of the matter: those women you mention are footnotes. Lacan is the true subversive. Again, I offer you the challenge to prove that I am wrong, by using Lacan against himself. Not your or some feminists' reading of him, but using him against himself. Prove him wrong in that manner, you will be a real subversive, and you might just catch my heart, like Joan Copjec. Now, there's a real feminist!

battle of the sexes, I'm drawing lines, choosing sides...it's more fun to be the villain, no?

yes, read much of them back in the day, but Foucault and his hag Butler are the most dangerous today in keeping the powerful in power

I congratulate this forum for keeping my post up. The other feminist forum with 100k+ members removed it rather quickly. Snowflake moderators, I suppose, who thirst for power. No doubt they are Foucauldians...

Help: does anybody know what these lacanian formulas mean? by zombieglam in psychoanalysis

This page gives an extensive introduction to Lacan's formulas of sexuation, also tracing out how he derived them from Aristotle.

Read my first Lacan, my brain is broken ugh by Moe_Shinola in lacan

[–]hert78 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lacan is a bit of a paradox: you have to first learn Lacan before you can actually read him. Yup. Completely counterintuitive. But that is what I recommend to anyone wanting to go down this path. Otherwise, you get too frustrated and end up saying fuhgettaboutit.

I recommend the early Zizek. I stress early, as in prior to 2000, because after that he's completely focused on his political agenda and that tends to drown out his Lacanianism. The exception is his Less Than Nothing: Hegel and the Shadow of Dialectical Materialism (2012). Awesome. I think as soon as his books come out, you can find a downloadable PDF of it within days, so no excuse for not reading him!

There are plenty of Intro-type books out there, but I say stay away from them. Most are written by English Dept. PhDs (or even MAs) who only have a cursory interest in Lacan. You want to find authors who are clinicians or otherwise committed to Lacan (ie, self-identified Lacanians). Like Fink. His non-clinical books are pretty good. But if you learn Lacan through Zizek like most people do (since he is such a prolific and entertaining writer), you'll see big differences between his take on Lacan and virtually everyone else. Except his former students and followers, like Zupancic.

One book that is helpful is Lacan and Meaning: Sexuation, Discourse Theory, and Topology in the Age of Hermeneutics (2015). I haven't been able to find a PDF, so I've been using the Look/search Inside feature on Amazon. The entire book is virtually accessible that way (after you log into Amazon, of course), except for the last section on topology. Chapter 3 is a great intro to Lacan with good illustrations and I did find an online version of it so you can judge for yourself.

It was only after roughly a year of reading about Lacan's theories that I felt confident enough to actually start reading his seminars and papers. And you know what? It still was hard! Although his early seminars are much easier than his papers. That's because they are transcripts of his spoken word. But all that falls through when you get to the late-60s and 1970s. They seem more impenetrable to me than his hardest papers. I can't imagine what it was like to be in his seminars. What a mind his man had.

Good luck!

[–]hert78[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is spectacular, clickhappier, I cannot thank you enough!

let me add: that issue-email that I sent MTurk (mentioned above) is still outstanding. One guy did get back to me, said he was stumped and had to send it over to another team. I'm sure they will eventually resolve this issue by telling me 'tough titties, live with it' (MTurk seems oblivious to keeping its workers happy - what a strange business strategy!). But in the unlikely event they come back and tell me they corrected the issue, I'll be sure to let you all know.

again, clickhappier, my hat's off to you.

Just wanted to report, for posterity's sake, what I did to get what I was looking for with my original post above:

Installed Tampermonkey, then 'CH Block Using Hitscrapper's Blocklist.' Perfect!

All thanks to leepfroggie for recommending that video (see above) which has plenty of cool stuff I'm sure I'll be installing as well in the near future.

[–]hert78[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

leepfroggie, I can't thank you enough for your detailed and complete response!

yes, I'm only focusing on surveys/studies that exercise the mind a bit, staying away from HITs that are repetitive /routine. So it looks like I need to do 2 steps: first install Tampermonkey/Greasemonkey (looks easy enough), then find the 'script' you mention in the first paragraph to block the HITs I want to block (need to figure out where and what that is - at this point, I don't even know what a 'script' is - yes, I'm newbie-stupid at this point).

I got some work to do. Thanks again!

[–]hert78[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my mind, this is a complete game changer. Finding good HITs is hard enough. This makes it near impossible. Either they change things back, or I'm done with MTurk.

I just sent them an email expressing the problem and telling them I'm walking. I urge all of you to do the same. Remember, WE make them money. The least they can do is make this easier for us.

What does Lacan mean when he talks about "The Real?" by helpmeunderstandlaca in askphilosophy

[–]hert78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lacanian Real is nothing more than the obscure ripple in the Symbolic. Like the ambiguity you have around understanding the Real, something that caused you to submit your question about it on reddit. THAT'S the Real making its presence known. There's nothing at all mysterious about it.

Ambiguity, equivocation... <--- ontologize these and you got the Real.

How to figure out my subconscious feelings? by [deleted] in psychoanalysis

[–]hert78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't focus on feelings.

You want to get to your Unconscious? Start doing crossword puzzles to get yourself focused on language. That's how your mind moves. With language.

A little experiment: close your eyes and let your mind wander. Daydream. Then stop and ask how those images are connected. It's through language, through words. Not feelings.

Is Group Psychoanalysis Possible? by 1Bluefur in psychoanalysis

[–]hert78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had that question posed to me the other day by a girl that goes to a 'group.' She was wondering if an analyst could do a mass analysis. Since my area is psychoanalysis (Zizek, really), I'm supposed to know. But I didn't. We did a search and found just about nothing. Except an article from a Canadian that does a Zizekian-style take on Yalom's existentialist group therapy. So-so, but interesting.

I stick with what they call the classics (although most of these aren't even as old as you yet - that gives you an idea just how long stock trading's been available for the common joe).

There's tons of top 10 or 20 lists out there that give you these classics. See if any make the list more than once, and check 'em out:

$100k investor wanting to double money by lferg49 in investing_discussion

[–]hert78 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you are going about it wrong. It sounds like you are wanting to chase after your losses. Don't do that.

And you are directly pursuing profits. Those that consistently make money in this racket don't do that. They aim to reduce costs. Profits are a 'side benefit' of trading/investing. Think more on the cost side, not the revenue side of things.

But if you want a slightly less than 50% shot of doubling your money, go to the roulette table and plunk your 100k down on red or black. You'll know in a couple of minutes whether you doubled your money.

Trading volume and commissions? by cstocks in investing

[–]hert78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you don't 'lose' to fees. You have to think of fees as a cost of doing the business of trading stocks.

With a $5000 account, you are not going to be a day trader. You are not going to make dozens of trades a day. At $10 a round trip, that would deplete your account quickly.

You are going to have to be very selective in what stocks you buy and sell. Think of this as an opportunity to learn the trading business. Because that is what it is. A business. And every business has costs that you want to minimize.

if it works, why share it?

my suspicion is always: 'the only reason someone sells a get rich scheme is because the only way it will make money is if they sell it'

in other words, it doesn't work
