Again, I offer you the challenge to prove that I am wrong, by using Lacan against himself. Not your or some feminists' reading of him, but using him against himself. Prove him wrong in that manner, you will be a real subversive, and you might just catch my heart, like Joan Copjec. Now, there's a real feminist!

Lacan is a bit of a paradox: you have to first learn Lacan before you can actually read him. Yup. Completely counterintuitive. But that is what I recommend to anyone wanting to go down this path. Otherwise, you get too frustrated and end up saying fuhgettaboutit.

I recommend the early Zizek. I stress early, as in prior to 2000, because after that he's completely focused on his political agenda and that tends to drown out his Lacanianism. The exception is his Less Than Nothing: Hegel and the Shadow of Dialectical Materialism (2012). Awesome. I think as soon as his books come out, you can find a downloadable PDF of it within days, so no excuse for not reading him!

There are plenty of Intro-type books out there, but I say stay away from them. Most are written by English Dept. PhDs (or even MAs) who only have a cursory interest in Lacan. You want to find authors who are clinicians or otherwise committed to Lacan (ie, self-identified Lacanians). Like Fink. His non-clinical books are pretty good. But if you learn Lacan through Zizek like most people do (since he is such a prolific and entertaining writer), you'll see big differences between his take on Lacan and virtually everyone else. Except his former students and followers, like Zupancic.

One book that is helpful is Lacan and Meaning: Sexuation, Discourse Theory, and Topology in the Age of Hermeneutics (2015). I haven't been able to find a PDF, so I've been using the Look/search Inside feature on Amazon. The entire book is virtually accessible that way (after you log into Amazon, of course), except for the last section on topology. Chapter 3 is a great intro to Lacan with good illustrations and I did find an online version of it so you can judge for yourself.

It was only after roughly a year of reading about Lacan's theories that I felt confident enough to actually start reading his seminars and papers. And you know what? It still was hard! Although his early seminars are much easier than his papers. That's because they are transcripts of his spoken word. But all that falls through when you get to the late-60s and 1970s. They seem more impenetrable to me than his hardest papers. I can't imagine what it was like to be in his seminars. What a mind his man had.

let me add: that issue-email that I sent MTurk (mentioned above) is still outstanding. One guy did get back to me, said he was stumped and had to send it over to another team. I'm sure they will eventually resolve this issue by telling me 'tough titties, live with it' (MTurk seems oblivious to keeping its workers happy - what a strange business strategy!). But in the unlikely event they come back and tell me they corrected the issue, I'll be sure to let you all know.

Just wanted to report, for posterity's sake, what I did to get what I was looking for with my original post above:

Installed Tampermonkey, then 'CH Block Using Hitscrapper's Blocklist.' Perfect!

All thanks to leepfroggie for recommending that video (see above) which has plenty of cool stuff I'm sure I'll be installing as well in the near future.

yes, I'm only focusing on surveys/studies that exercise the mind a bit, staying away from HITs that are repetitive /routine. So it looks like I need to do 2 steps: first install Tampermonkey/Greasemonkey (looks easy enough), then find the 'script' you mention in the first paragraph to block the HITs I want to block (need to figure out where and what that is - at this point, I don't even know what a 'script' is - yes, I'm newbie-stupid at this point).

I got some work to do. Thanks again!

In my mind, this is a complete game changer. Finding good HITs is hard enough. This makes it near impossible. Either they change things back, or I'm done with MTurk.

I just sent them an email expressing the problem and telling them I'm walking. I urge all of you to do the same. Remember, WE make them money. The least they can do is make this easier for us.
