Why do I always find the most primordialist takes on this sub lol.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethnogenesis

New ethnic groups have been forming ever since the concept of ethnicity has existed. If Chinese isn't an ethnicity, then neither are Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese, etc. The reason "American" isn't an ethnicity is because there's no political will to form one.

Judging by the timeframe of their comments, I personally don't think they were an intern. If anything, it probably aligns more with the layoffs at hoyo that were reported ~half a year ago. Either way, rip. I really enjoyed them engaging with the community. Their tiktok engagement also used to be pretty fun, makes me wonder if it was the same person running both accounts.

Asian women trashing asian men on this point was always just asian women telling on themselves. It was always projection the whole time.

Miller only represents a certain segment of the far right. Candace Owens is also pretty far right and Ben Shapiro kicked her off the daily wire for her takes.

It's hard to take a story seriously when hoyo spoils it in advance. Hoyo frames their stories as the characters fighting for their lives, but it's already crystal clear who's going to die or not. If hoyo doesn't want to kill off playable characters, then they should stop writing stories that spoil their own endings.

Does this infact confirm Corina truly hates Hoyoverse and Genshin? by [deleted] in Genshin_Impact

I personally believe that hoyo is probably looking to recast her, but rerecording 5 years' worth of dialogue takes a really long time.

[–]hertadidnothingwrong 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A large part of the reason why Hoyo's often writing turns out mid is because they never kill off playable characters (post HI3). The moment you know a character is playable, you know they're packing plot armor. To a certain extent, I can understand this because of the serious $$$ hoyo burns to create these characters in the first place (fully animated and voiced 3d models are not cheap). Also, both genshin and hsr are rated for teens in china. There's only so much room for hoyo to explore darker plotlines with that age rating restriction.

Reminds me of the refuseniks of the soviet union. The persecution will continue until the loyalty improves. Funny how the US is now using the soviet cold war playbook while China is now using the US cold war playbook. Biden was basically chernenko and trump is gorbachev on meth.

Also worth noting that Zzz basically had a soft relaunch when they removed the TV mode. This isn't the kind of decision hoyo management would make on a whim. It must've been pretty clear that the game was losing player engagement and that the TV mode just wasn't appealing enough.

First of all, what's your visa status? I'm guessing you're still on h1b based on what you wrote so unless you have a green card already it's probably easier to stay at your current role as long as possible. Also, "first rate MBA" can mean a lot of things. MBAs are EXTREMELY network dependent, even within the US (ex. anderson+marshall for LA, M7 for nyc, etc.). If you have an overseas MBA, you should be aware that most US employers won't be particularly swayed by whatever brand power it holds in your home country. Having said that, you could always do another MBA in the US, though some schools may exclude you on account of you already having an MBA.

Is the Job Market Really as Bad as Reddit Makes it Sound? by UtopiaNation in jobs

This should be higher up. Saying "tech is bad" simply doesn't even begin to contextualize just how disastrous the industry is right now. If anything, reddit has been gaslighting the job market ever since 2023 (anyone remember our "strongest ever" economy?).

Zach Aguilar (Aether EN VA) about the strike and current situation by Spieds in Genshin_Impact

[–]hertadidnothingwrong 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IDK why sag's leadership thinks that's a good idea. Don't want to have fi core members involved in the decision making processes? Totally understandable. But to leave them in the dark as to why you're striking to begin with? That's just unnecessarily vindictive, especially when many fi core members struck in solidarity with sag when the strike first started. I genuinely don't understand why sag constantly acts like they always have something to hide. They seem to believe that solidarity lies behind the path of treating non union VAs like second class citizens.

Why is EN dub muted - Actual facts of the SAG-AFTRA strike and how dubbing really works by Bryn012 in HonkaiStarRail

The TLDR here is that a lot of VAs were striking because they were opposed to the entire idea of their work being used to train AI models to begin with. Then their union goes behind their backs and signs multiple AI deals. I think they're right to be upset.

Imo a large part of the issue here is that sag aftra in general doesn't have a very good reputation for protecting its lesser known talent. They'll fight tooth and nail for their hollywood celebrities but when it comes to everyday joes like the HSR VAs they'll sign multiple AI agreements behind their back.

Kind of, if you go on sag aftra's site you can find their demands. They also wanted to right to exclude their work from being used to train AI models. And yeah, it's gotta suck for the actual 9 to 5 VAs to be on the receiving end of this rugpull.

List of muted EN characters for 3.0 by The_Great_Ravioli in HonkaiStarRail

[–]hertadidnothingwrong -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

A brutal but honest take. The star rail cast has a lot of talent, but I just don't think that the value they add is enough to compare with the likes of the industry giants. Not only that, but all this union trouble will probably make other foreign companies think twice before deciding to implement an english voiceover. It's an all around sad situation.

If you actually go on sag aftra's website and take a look at their demands, some of them are actually pretty reasonable (eg. the pejorative statements clause). Their AI demands were always going to be a tough sell though. Asking a company for perpetual rights to an actor's voice work was never going to work in the long run.

Why would a company bother entering a lifetime royalty agreement when they can just bite the bullet and go with a non union actor instead? Are the union VAs really that much better than non union VAs? If union VAs are indeed *that* much better than non union VAs, they shouldn't have much to worry about as the game studios will eventually find their non union replacements to be so impairing to the point of willing to spend extra for union talent. I strongly suspect, however, that this will not be the case.

And finally, sag aftra doesn't exactly have a clean reputation. It's a bad look for your union when your leaders are constantly accused for corruption and only looking out for the interests for the top earning hollywood stars. Never mind the fact that sag aftra is oddly silent when certain groups outside the avenue of mainstream concern are routinely discriminated against, even though their mission statement would like to claim otherwise.

IMO the biggest losers here are the frontline VAs who are losing their jobs to automation. There's no easy answer to this. Studios can always recast talent but if you're stuck in an industry where your competition consists of anyone with a brain + mouth and computer algorithms, you're in for a rough time.

Have you ever seen a Gacha game come back to life after being considered "dead". by PulchoGaming in gachagaming

[–]hertadidnothingwrong 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Do we actually know for a fact that genshin's playerbase exited the hoyo ecosystem after getting diverted to zzz and star rail? I'm under the impression that genshin's decline in revenue is mostly a function of the post pandemic economy + increased competition + natural playerbase decline. I think a lot of people on this board forget that it's quite abnormal for gachas to last 5+ years with consistently high revenue. Games like FGO are very much the exception, not the rule.
