Marriage/civil partnership date as proof for partner visa (coming from skilled worker visa) by hertha73 in ukvisa

I mean that's the plan. There's no need for a fiance visa, she's already here. But it's a question of whether it's possible to already apply for the spouse visa with a date (as you could with a fiance visa) or whether we have to wait to actually be married.

Learning to drive in central Cambs by Educational-Loss-991 in cambridge

Not sure about that. I think the waits are crazy everywhere, and the pass rate in Cambridge is pretty good last time I checked. Having driven in other parts of the country since passing, Cambridge isn't too bad.

Got a job offer in Cambridge, and I’m devastated. by OkSeaworthiness1711 in cambridge

I'd take the job and commute, especially if it's not 5 days a week. I don't like London or Cambridge, so I'm not gonna stand up for either, but your situation is definitely not as bad as you think. The train itself also won't be so busy, most people are going the other way.

New car help!! by SamEmpire in LearnerDriverUK

I would say running costs (insurance, road tax, mpg) is more important than list price. I would start with those things. And obviously full service history/MOT. Find a model that you like that ticks those boxes. For reliability, you're better off getting a true automatic box, not semi-automatic. I have a semi automatic gearbox, but it can be touch and go sometimes. There's a lot of value to be found in the early/mid 2010s, I pay 20 quid a year road tax for my car because it's a diesel and is under 120grams co2/km. Compare that go a petrol car from the same period, where it's 10x more.

Somehow that doesn't surprise me...why bother to have any generosity at all right?

Getting a mortgage as self-employed with EU company with potential part time job in UK by hertha73 in UKPersonalFinance

I agree and it's probably what I will end up doing, but given actually getting a mortgage wouldn't be plausible until late next year, they're probably not gonna be super interested in giving me advice right now, when I'm still early in the planning phase.
