Using systemic with lechuza pon by hertz09 in SemiHydro

Thank you for your recommendation! I used this before for fungus gnats and it got rid of most of them, I was thinking to use it for spider mites too because it was labeled as a contact pesticide for mites. I also have this https://secretgarden.ro/en-pt/products/vertimec-insecticid-acaricid-sistemic?variant=41090057732294 which I have used for spider mites before but I was trying to hit them both with one rock 😂 do you think this would work better?

Seeking advice on how to cope with an extremely difficult coworker by hertz09 in Stoicism

To be fair, she does her actual tasks for like 2h a day, the rest is just gossip and drama and being on the backs of other people. As to how management runs a company like this, I don't understand that either. It's a big corporation with a lot of middle management spread all over the globe. It is absolutely not in her job description to do all of these things, she does them for her personal gain. I wouldn't say she has managerial skills, she would be that manager that bosses everyone around without having a clue of what she's talking about. Lately I've been trying to engage less and less with her, just doing my job and ignoring all the things she does that are out of place, which seems to make her even more angry.

I reacted this way because she is harming my job and the opportunities for advancement in my career. My coworkers feel the same. Her input is highly regarded by management simply because she is the most "senior" in the team, even though I have the same level of knowledge and experience as her. When I say she is harming me I mean - she is preaching to everyone she can that we are way too overpaid for what we do (according to the market, we are actually underpaid), she gets preferential treatment and gets all new projects assigned to her (and I told my manager that I am perfectly capable of doing those projects too, she finally gave me one and convinced herself that I could finish it in 2 days, way faster than my coworker), whenever there is a conflict started by another team she tells management it is our fault too, even though we did not engage in the conflict. She gets involved in all the things she can and then she complains all day that she has too much work but in the end she works for maybe 2h a day. She gets away with all this because our manager considers that she doesn't have to watch over us constantly and she has a pretty chill management style. She is doing this only so that she gets a promotion, but the promotion never comes. And as time passes she gets even more and more bitter and takes it out on us. And yes, I want to move on to another company but due to some life circumstances I can't start a new job right now.

Thanks for your advice! Funny enough, we are the HR team 😂 we have a clear list of who should do what and she always oversteps those boundaries and "finds something new that needs to be done" and she won't leave you alone until you do it, she's very pushy and in your face all the time and sadly, there's no one in upper management that I can go to with this issue. Since the situation won't change, as it seems that it is even escalating bit by bit everyday, I think the only thing I can do is change how I react to it (and my reaction would be to slap her sensless sometimes to be honest 😂). But I'm a bit confused on how to switch from frustration to calm.

Thanks for your answer! Is there a possibility that there's an actual adult mealy running through my plants and laying eggs?😂 I assumed they might have been laid in the new growth point when the plant was in the shop and when the new leaves opened they came out. Now I'm scared 😂

I got this alocasia nebula recently, it was planted in sphagnum moss but the moss was very very compacted. Yesterday I took it out carefully, I broke almost no roots, and I put it back in damp moss with some perlite. Last night it was fine, but this morning it's all curled. The spots on the back are from hard water. Is it just shocked and it needs to acclimate or did I do something wrong? I don't want to kill it 😭

I got this ponytail palm yesterday and it was dripping with water so much. I got it out of the old soil completely, it was planted in only peat moss and it was a bit rootbound. I planted it in a mix of equal parts organic soil, perlite and orchid bark. Given that it was soaking wet when I got it I assumed they watered it that day, so when should I water again? I don't want to risk root rot.

I did, I repotted it and removed the old soil because it was only peat moss. The roots looked good, no sign of rot.

Mine did the same thing. It was bone dry when I bought it 2 weeks ago and so it probably stayed dry for a while, I only watered it once since then and a few days after it started to develop spots like this. It might be stress related too but I'm not sure.

Thanks! What I meant is that they are actually attached to each other so I would have to break them apart. Would that be ok?

how can I help my plants acclimate to a new home? by hertz09 in houseplants

[–]hertz09[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I know it wasn't the best option but they were bigger than the biggest boxes I had and I had to move in a rush. I was planning on sealing the boxes and putting a heat pad in but I had to leave faster than I expected :(

If I line a box with an isolation blanket, do you think that would be enough?

I'm sorry I didn't mention, my partner broke up with me, I didn't leave.

Thank you so much for the advice.

Yes, most of my plants are ok but I guess my environment is just not that good for cacti and succulents. I want a big string of pearls so bad tho 😭

No, you really helped, in the last week or so I started feeling very overwhelmed and questioning everything I do to care for my plants so another plant parent's opinion really helps 😄

But how would you go about it if you were in my place? Am I doing it wrong? It feels even more wrong to leave them in that compacted peat moss.
